From Cronest To Ang Pao Strudels: Our CNY Favourites From Icon Brewings

Many have described Icon Brewings as Cheras’ hidden gem – a nice spot for cafe hoppers and local foodies to hang out and enjoy each other’s company over some small bites. With Chinese New Year upon us, we recently returned here to check out what’s new on the menu.

Taking the spotlight this festive season is Cronest. Introducing Icon Brewings’ new creative approach: Cronest is a hybrid of a ‘croissant’ and a ‘nest’ that merges the flaky goodness of a croissant with the rich indulgence of a Basque burnt cheesecake to marry unparalleled richness and flavor. The result? Chef kiss!

Owner Nicolas Lim is known to mix bold flavors with innovative twists and this delightful pastry is no different. Ranging from RM13-RM15, the Cronest variety comes in Chocolate, Hazelnut, Strawberry, Red Bean Matcha, Original Cheese, Tiramisu, plus the latest Pistachio Kunafa flavour. It’s rich and gooey, with a perfect balance of crunch and creamy. If you’re a sucker for anything cheesy, this is a must!

If you’re making plans to Bai Nian (拜年) – a traditional practice of visiting family and friends – this unique creation is perfect for CNY celebrations or for those looking for something new and interesting on the menu. Another highlight worth considering would be their Ang Pao Classic Strudels.

Back by popular demand, the Ang Pao Strudels give off a distinct CNY vibe of good fortune and prosperity thanks to the red envelope connection of good luck being wrapped up in each pastry. Available in 5 refreshing fruit flavours, it’s impossible to pick a favourite between strawberry, mango, grape, blueberry and peach.

Beyond their desserts, Icon Brewings also offers an all day dining menu. For the mains, we tasted the Chicken Roulade Dry Ramen (RM25) and Salted Egg Chicken Chop (RM28).

The Chicken Roulade Dry Ramen combines the smoky richness of BBQ with the comforting texture of ramen. Grilled to perfection, the tender chicken paired with chewy ramen creates a dynamic textural contrast, making each bite more interesting. Those with an appetite for something Western might enjoy the large, boneless piece of chicken marinated with creamy salted egg. It’s a familiar comfort food, well loved by locals.
