Lights, camera, action – a younger and cuter Peik Lin is in the house and she’s going to snatch your wig.
Meet Liliana, the 1-year-old toddler who was dressed by her mum, Mary Grace Pingoy, as Peik Lin (played by Awkwafina) after watching “Crazy Rich Asians”. For those that don’t know, Mary Grace is a photographer from Indiana.
After being inspired by “Crazy Rich Asians”, Mary Grace decided to dress Liliana up as her favourite character Peik Lin, the funny sidekick to Rachel Chu (portrayed by Constance Wu). When Huffington Post reached out to Mary Grace, she explained that the story’s values and characters – especially Peik Lin – really spoke to her on a personal level.
“I loved Peik Lin’s character especially not only because of how funny she is but because she was the example of authentic friendship and sisterhood. Being there for Rachel when she needed her, in more ways than one. We all need a BFF like that in our life,” she was quoted as saying.
She added, “I love the family aspect of it as well, being so close knit with her parents even though it gets crazy sometimes, you know she loves them.”
“I always want my boys and my baby girl know how beautiful they are! Growing up when the majority of people around you don’t look like you, at times you can feel a little left out or different. Embracing all nationalities and cultures for their own special gifts is what makes this world such a beautiful place,” Mary Grace told the publication.
Despite her young age, Liliana is already proving to be a pro at cosplay when she rocked the blonde wig, striped pants and a patterned frock as mini Peik Lin. Her 7-year-old brother Jonah Raphael also joined in on the fun when he was dressed up at Peik Lin’s dad Wye Mun (played by Ken Jeong).
Their efforts were not in vain though. The photos caught the attention of director Jon M Chu as well as Awkwafina (who commented “Omg I am crying rn” after noticing her mini-me). Take a look at their reactions below:

In other news, an investor (Liu Yang) behind “Crazy Rich Asians” recently expressed her interest to change the title of the “Crazy Rich Asians” sequel, which is “China Rich Girlfriend” to “Shanghai Rich Girlfriends”. No word yet if that will come to past.
Meanwhile, Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh will be working together again in “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. It’s an action film that will be directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and produced by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo (of “Avengers: Infinity War” fame).
