The Afterlife has never looked this good! And you can join them in the waiting room where spooky surprises await. 36 years after the original “Beetlejuice” debuted, the highly-anticipated sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is set to hit local theatres on 5th September 2024.
Tim Burton’s horror-comedy film sees Michael Keaton reprising the titular character. Beetlejuice is being summoned once again by Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), after her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), opens a portal into The Afterlife by accident.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, Winona Ryder talked about the special bond she formed with Jenna Ortega, who plays her on-screen daughter. “Once we started talking, and I remember it was on our third day together, the day we shot the scene in the attic, we never stopped. It almost felt holy, like some sort of blessing from above, which, I think, is because we share the belief that film can be a kind of a religious experience,” she told the publication.
“I feel like if you locked Winona and I in a blacked-out room…we could talk for hours, no touching of the phones,” Ortega echoed Ryder’s sentiments. “I think she naturally is very protective of other women. That kind of trust, the kind I have with her, it’s once-in-a-lifetime rare.”
