Concert Review: The Script “Painted The Town Green” During KL Show

Irish rock band The Script is currently on their “Satellites World Tour” and their latest stop was Malaysia. The “Nothing” hitmaker took the stage at Mega Star Arena over the weekend, and fans were over the moon after finally getting the chance to see the band perform live after such a long time.

Performing songs from their latest album “Satellites”, as well as their classic hits, the Grammy-nominated band left fans with an unforgettable night of fun and nostalgia. Here are some of our favourite moments during the KL show:

Shivers ran down our spines as soon as drummer Glen Power began the performance with dramatic beats, hyping up the audience for the highly anticipated show. Screams echoed from every corner of the room when the other members, especially vocalist Danny O’Donoghue, walked onto the stage and kicked off the concert with “You Won’t Feel A Thing.”

Without a moment to pause, The Script carried on with fan favourites “Superheroes” and “Rain”, where the lead singer went down to the crowd to give some fans the chance to show off their vocals during the third song. That moment definitely put a smile on everyone’s faces. As soon as Danny walked back up to the stage, the band performed “Both Ways”, a track from their new album, before moving on to their classic “Man Who Can’t Be Moved” which brought back so many memories from our youth.

On behalf of the band, Danny expressed their gratitude to fans for their overwhelming love and support over the years, especially during the grieving process following the death of their dear friend and lead guitarist Mark Sheehan, who passed away in 2023. The Script slowed things down and dedicated the next song, “If You Could See Me Now”, to their late member.

One of our favourite moments during the show was when the band performed the ballad “Never Seen Anything”, where couples, especially married ones, were seen embracing each other while enjoying the love song. The vocalist truly enjoyed joining the crowd as he went down once more, but this time to get even more up close and personal with the audience while performing the band’s 2010 hit “Nothing”. Definitely another highlight of the night.

The Script then showcased their Irish pride by performing “Paint the Town Green”, which had members of the audience leaping to their feet and cheering loudly, before continuing with “For the First Time”. Speaking of first times, rather than screaming for an encore, fans were still singing the chorus to the last song, accompanied by a sea of lights from their phones. It was truly a beautiful, tear-jerking moment to witness that night.

It didn’t take long for The Script to return to the stage for an encore, performing “Home Is Where the Hurt Is”, and “Breakeven”, and ending the night with the ever-empowering anthem “Hall of Fame”. The band performed a total of 17 songs but even then it felt too short. Still, we certainly had an amazing time and we hope to see The Script return in the future. Were you there at the concert? What was your favourite moment?
