After a two-year hiatus (due to the Covid-19 pandemic), Good Vibes is finally back with a bang! A large crowd of local concertgoers and music enthusiasts gathered at Sunway Lagoon to sing and dance their hearts out during the first day of Good Vibes Weekender 2022 music festival yesterday (Friday, 23rd September).

The seven-hour long concert was jam-packed with a vast array of musical genres such as sultry bedroom pop, homegrown electronica and punk pop, synth-pop, alternative rock. Fans were also treated with sizzling hip-hop and K-pop performances. The show was headlined by our very own Mr. President, Joe Flizzow and the one and only Queen of K-pop, CL!

Local musical acts Alex Ungku and Claudia acted as show-openers for this year’s Good Vibes fest. The former wowed the crowd with flawless performances of his songs such as “Cloud Nine”, “Rindu”, “Let Me In” (with Bil Musa) and “Summer Lover”. Meanwhile, Claudia delivered her hits including “Mikaela”, “Nice Guy” and “Bodies”. Despite being the opening acts, both Alex and Claudia didn’t fail to get the crowd going with their splendid performances.

Next to come up on stage was Midnight Fusic. They set the stage of fire with a string of their popular songs namely “Off My Mind”, “Lovesick and also, “Summer Love”. Singer Lunadira also appeared as a special guest. She performed the song “Vertigo” with the indie band.

Following Midnight Fusic, the next artiste to perform was Dolla. The four-piece girl group came up with energetic performances of “Watch Me Glow”, “Fight”, and “Bad”. The girls also performed a snippet from their upcoming ballad number “Mungkin Ini Adalah Lagu Paling Sedih Pernah Ku Buat”. Mark your calendar, iDollas, the song is set to be released this coming 30th September!

Following Dolla’s performance, the crowd was pumped up with club bangers by Surf Mesa and Snakehips. As the night fell, English pop duo Oh Wonder came up on stage to perform their setlist. Comprised of real-life married couple Anthony and Josephine Van der West, they sent the crowd into a frenzy with their energetic renditions of their songs such as “Hallelujah”, and “F**k It I Love You”, “Happy” and “Lose It”. Josephine also didn’t forget to interact with the crowd in attendance. She showed off her skills in speaking Malay, uttering words such as “Apa Khabar”, “Selamat Malam” and also “Mak Kau Hijau”!

Malaysian rapper SonaOne was met with loud cheer from the crowd when he appeared. He set the stage ablaze with his signature upbeat hip-hop jams such as “Loccdown”, “Hak Eleh”, “No More”, “Obvious” and “Bomba”. The audience were also spotted vibing and singing along with the 33-year-old singer’s performances. Next to get the people going was Joe Flizzow. The seasoned rapper wowed the crowd with his live performances of songs such as “Havoc”, “Baek”, and “Sampai Jadi”. He was then joined by SonaOne on the stage. The duo performed “Apa Khabar” and “Suatu Malam Di Temasek” together, thus ending their joint segment.

The lights then went off in preparation for the final act. After a few moments, CL appeared on stage, and was met with the loudest cheers from the Sunway Lagoon crowd. She opened her segment with sizzling performances of her songs namely “Spicy”, “Hwa” and “The Baddest Female (GZB)”.

Just when we thought the sexy idol was running out of energy, she took it up another notch with a series of energetic performances for songs including “5 Star”, “Chuck”, “Dr. Pepper”, “Tie A Cherry”, “Lover Like Me”, and “MTBD”. Midway through the performance, CL also quipped about taking her long coat off, presumably because of the humid weather here in Malaysia. “I really want to take this jacket off, but I don’t want to get in trouble so…” the solo artiste told the crowd. She closed the show with one last performance of “Hello Bitches”.
