It’s been a while since the public heard from disgraced Canadian-Chinese soloist Kris Wu (吴亦凡) after he was sentenced to 13 years in jail for multiple sexual assault charges.

While the former EXO member awaits the court’s decision for his appeal, a new rumour has emerged from Chinese social media. According to the information from two open databases on Chinese companies, Qichacha (企查查) and Tian Yan Cha (天眼查), three companies related to the singer were ordered to pay a hefty fine of over RMB18.9 million (approximately RM12.4 million) for service contract disputes.

The three companies are Inner Mongolia Fanshi Film and Television Media Co. (内蒙古凡世影视传媒有限公司), Inner Mongolia Chaoting Culture Media Co. (内蒙古潮廷文化传媒有限责任公司) and Beijing Fanshi Culture Media Co. (北京凡世文化传媒有限公司). Reports said that Kris’ cousin is the legal representative for Beijing Fanshi Culture Media and his mother acts as the supervisor. Both family members allegedly also own shares in the company.

In 2021, the agency representing Kris, Vantage Co., requested an order of termination for the service contracts the agency had signed with Inner Mongolia Fanshi Film and Television Media and Inner Mongolia Chaoting Culture Media. The agency also ordered the companies and Beijing Fanshi Culture Media to refund service fees of RMB 17.5 million (approximately RM11.4 million) plus interest.

Since his detention, Kris’ life in prison has been exposed multiple times by the media and former jail mates. A Chinese YouTuber has also published a video revealing the former celeb’s behaviour while in prison, often treating the place like his home. A former inmate also shared with the media that he and several other inmates have caught Kris secretly crying in the night, perhaps because he could not bear the living conditions in prison.
