We always hope people will remember the good parts of us when we’re gone. So, we can understand why Hong Kong artist Coco Lee (李玟)’s sister Nancy Lee (李思林) has lost her patience with certain malicious rumours floating around, slandering her sister and family’s name.
Coco Lee passed away in early July, but things haven’t been easy since her passing. Her sisters, Carol and Nancy have been besieged by a slew of mishaps, like Coco’s husband attempting to contest her will. One in particular called Coco and Nancy’s relationship into question, which had her publicly reprimanding netizens.
An unexpected recording has been circulating on the internet recently. The recording allegedly is of a conversation Coco had with Nancy in Cantonese. Reportedly, Coco is scolding Nancy in the recording, calling her heartless and claiming she wants to live in a luxurious house but did not pay for it as Coco had paid all the expenses. Nancy Lee has since responded to the issue with a legal letter, uploaded to her Weibo on 10th August.
“During this most difficult summer, when I bid farewell to my beloved sister, nothing but grief remained,” she started. Nancy then thanked relatives, friends and fans for supporting Coco on her last journey, but called out netizens who were “spreading false information, malicious speculation, insults, misleading remarks etc.” “This is absolutely unacceptable!” she exclaimed.
Her legal letter then declared that relevant netizens and media were requested to immediately delete and stop disseminating false and malicious remarks. They also hoped relevant online platforms would supervise and block such posts. Nancy requested the same of Coco’s fans before warning everyone: “I will use the law (as a) weapon (and) exhaust all legal means to protect myself and my family. And (will) hold (those responsible) accountable to the end!”
We understand it is a difficult time for the family, even more so after the sisters’ unexpected outburst at Coco’s funeral. Nancy Lee has kept her composure well so far, but it seems even she has found the last straw. As she wrote: “I implore everyone to give Coco and her family (your last) love and respect!”
