Besides his decades-long work in film and television, Hong Kong screen icon Chow Yun Fat (周润发) is known for his investment in luxury properties. However, the actor is reportedly having difficulty selling one of his houses.
Earlier this week, news outlets reported that Chow Yun Fat had slashed the asking price of his luxury detached villa located at The Peak. The veteran actor is now asking for HK$160 million (approximately RM83 million) for the property, marking a significant reduction of HK$60 million (~RM31 million) or 27 per cent from the initial asking price.

The 2,547-square-foot property in Sunshine Villa was first listed in October 2022 for HK$220 million (~RM114 million). Following lukewarm responses, Chow Yun Fat lowered the price to HK$195 million (~RM101 million) at the end of 2024. The actor purchased the property in September 2010 for HK$128 million (~RM66 million).
The property also features a 2,000-square-foot garden, a 700-square-foot rooftop and panoramic sea views. Chow Yun Fat had the house fully renovated after the purchase. However, the property has never been occupied or rented out. Additionally, reports said the actor is selective about potential buyers, so access to view the property remains highly restricted.
Only time will tell if this recent price cut will entice more potential buyers. Despite having difficulty selling his Peak villa, Chow Yun Fat has profited from his other properties. In April this year, he reportedly made a HK$3.58 million (~RM1.86 million) profit after selling a three-bedroom flat at Corona Towers in Mid-Levels for HK$7.5 million (~RMRM3.8 million).

The actor has a pretty extensive real estate portfolio, allegedly owning at least seven other properties across prime locations in Hong Kong. His properties have a combined estimated value of more than HK$1 billion (~RM520 million). As for his personal residence, the 71-year-old and his wife Jasmine Tan currently live in a 3,000-square-foot house in Kowloon Tong.
Despite his wealth, Chow Yun Fat still maintains a modest lifestyle, often seen frequenting local food stalls and taking public transportation. Many fans and netizens have praised him for his surprisingly humble character.
