While dating someone you love may seem like a blessed occasion, some dating rumours instead ignite a lot of commotion amongst fans and netizens. Recently, Chinese actor Li Chen (李晨) got caught up in dating rumours with fellow celebrity Angelababy (杨颖) – and some fans aren’t too happy about it.
The story stemmed from an alleged WeChat posting by Li Chen, who supposedly wrote, “Ten years of friendship blossomed into deep love”. Unfortunately, there was no proof of the posting – but it nevertheless led to netizens discussing who the star was referring to. Many believe the cryptic message was Li Chen’s way of revealing that he is currently in a relationship with a long-time friend. Due to the ten-year hint, netizens began spreading the claims that the 46-year-old was in a relationship with Hong Kong actress Angelababy.
The two celebs have co-starred on the Chinese variety show “Keep Running 奔跑吧” since 2014 and maintained a good relationship, on and off-screen. After the rumour spread, Li Chen and Angelababy began trending on Chinese social media. However, netizens quickly discovered it was merely gossip as neither stars released any statement about their relationship.
These allegations also led many to discuss the situation between the two public figures. Many had argued that Li Chen wouldn’t be careless to announce his relationship with Angelababy since she is supposedly facing a ban from the Chinese entertainment industry. Some fans also argued that the 35-year-old is a poor match for the actor because of her reputation. However, others theorise that the sudden dating claims may be a way to boost ratings for the new season of “Keep Running”, which has recently been going down.
If the rumours are true, this would be Angelababy’s first public relationship since divorcing businessman Huang Xiaoming in 2022 and Li Chen’s first public relationship since his 2019 breakup with actress Fan Bingbing. Whatever the case, we hope the two stars are happy in their private lives.
