After months of speculation, Chinese celebrity couple Chen Xiao (陈晓) and Michelle Chen (陈妍希) announced their divorce on 18th February 2025 (Tuesday). Just a week after the divorce announcement, there are rumours that Chen Xiao is already back in the dating scene.
Recently, Chinese social media broke into a frenzy after rumours surfaced that Chen Xiao is dating actress Mao Xiao Tong (毛晓彤). The two recently co-starred in the 2023 Chinese drama The Ingenious One (云襄传)”, playing the two main leads. The allegations suggest that Chen Xiao fell in love with Mao Xiao Tong during filming for the drama series, which led to his marital problems with Michelle Chen.
Chen Xiao recently announced his divorce from actress Michelle Chen after nearly nine years of marriage. The two tied the knot in 2016 and have one son together. Interestingly, the pair met on the set of the 2014 Chinese drama, “The Romance of the Condor Heroes(神雕侠侣)”, which also starred Mao Xiao Tong. This fact led many to use the drama and the stars’ characters to describe the current situation, saying, “Yang Guo (Chen Xiao) left Xiaolongnu (Michelle) and fell in love with Guo Fu (Mao Xiao Tong).”
The dating rumours between Chen Xiao and Mao Xiao Tong also prompted netizens to dig up past details of the two to determine whether there was any infidelity on the actor’s part. Many netizens revealed the two had a lot of close interactions while on set, especially when filming their recent drama. Some also noted that Chen Xiao’s agency had deleted comments from fans of the pairing, perhaps to keep their relationship on the low.
Despite the many suspicious details of the pair’s interactions, many noted that it lacked conclusive evidence. Some even argued that fans are using the rumour to build hype over the upcoming sequel for “The Ingenious One”. However, the whistleblower assured the rumours were true, even saying the couple might soon announce their relationship.
