The South Korean music industry is shocked over the sudden death of K-R&B icon Wheesung (휘성). The singer was found unresponsive at his apartment on 10th March 2025 (Monday). He was 43.
Wheesung reportedly died of cardiac arrest. His agency, Tajoy Entertainment, released a statement regarding the singer’s passing, extending their condolences to his family.

Following the devastating news, tributes from Wheesung’s fellow artists and fans poured in. One of the stars was 2AM (투에이엠) member Changmin (이창민), who wrote on Instagram, “You were the artist I wanted to be like. I will remember you. Rest in peace.”
Rapper Paloalto (팔로알토) also recalled how Wheesung was a much-anticipated R&B star even before his debut. He thanked the singer for all the fond memories through an Instagram Stories post, saying, “Thank you for being part of my good memories in my youth through your music.”.

Another Korean rapper, Changmo (창모), also thanked the late singer for his music, writing, “Thank you for having a great impact on my life with your amazing music. Rest in peace.”.
Stars also left comments on Wheesung’s final Instagram post before his passing. Singer oceanfromtheblue (오션프롬더블루) wrote, “You were my idol when I was in high school. We never met, but you were always like a brother who taught me music. I hope you’ll be happier there.”.
Rapper Hangzoo (행주) commented, “My heart hurts so bad. Rest peacefully in the sky.” Fans also paid their tribute, thanking the vocalist for shaping their youth with his music.

Wheesung was a prominent figure in the Korean R&B scene. He was also the inspiration for many K-pop stars, including the late Jonghyun (종현) of SHINee (샤이니). He was also credited for helping build the careers of many of Korea’s biggest stars, including IU (아이유), MAMAMOO (마마무) and Ailee (에일리). Unfortunately, the star had dealt with many personal issues, including drug abuse and depression.
We extend our condolences to Wheesung’s family, fans and loved ones. May they find solace during this difficult time, and may the star rest in peace.
