If you’ve been following South Korean heartthrob actor and singer Kim Hyun Joong’s domestic abuse controversy closely, you’d know that it just took a strange turn.
In August 2014, his ex-girlfriend aka one Ms. Choi accused him of assault. It was also revealed that at that time, they had been dating since 2012. Without a doubt, Kim Hyun Joong was throwing into the limelight and there were even rumours that he tried to delay his compulsory South Korean military enlistment so that he could deal with the assault charges files against him by his ex-girlfriend.
Well, long story short, he offered a sincere and public apology to Choi as well as his fans. She then dropped the charges against him although one of the four counts of physical violence initially reported by Choi was reviewed by the Seoul courts, and Kim Hyun Joong was fined 5 million won last month.
And here’s where the plot thicken.
Just yesterday, we wrote that Kim Hyun Joong is expecting his first child and will become a father before this year is over. The story was based off a piece of news that women’s magazine Women Sense broke, in which they claimed that a “close friend” of the couple confirmed that “Choi and Kim Hyun Joong have made up and are back together”, and that “She is 10 weeks and soon to be 4 months into her pregnancy”.
After which, Kim Hyun Joong’s agency, Key East Entertainment, released an official statement to confirm that yes, the couple did rekindle their relationship but didn’t confirm if Choi was indeed pregnant or not. Of course, this leaves us all still pretty much in the dark.
Now, South Korean media outlet Sports Seoul are saying that they were able to score a phone interview with Choi’s lawyer Sun Jong Moon. The lawyer stated over the phone:
It’s true that Miss Choi is pregnant. It’s also true that Kim Hyun Joong is the father. Miss Choi has been having a tough time with her pregnancy being revealed to the world; she is currently visiting clinics and getting rest and stability.
The lawyer also said he’s in possession of plenty of evidence to confirm Choi’s pregnancy.
As for news about her being uncontactable by Kim Hyun Joong and family, the lawyer said:
It is not true that she’s hiding out. After she notified them of her pregnancy, she met with Kim Hyun Joong’s side even until recently. She contacted them and met with them.
Whoa, what a strange twist to this Kim Hyun Joong saga! Meanwhile, Choi’s side is expected to release an official statement regarding their position either later today or tomorrow.
UPDATE (6am, 25th Feb):
Ms. Choi’s attorney has stepped in to share his/her thoughts on the above issue. As reported by AKP, speaking to Osen, the attorney said that Kim Hyun Joong had already been given evidence of Choi’s pregnancy in the form of an ultrasound photo. He/she also stated:
It’s a one-sided argument from Kim Hyun Joong’s reps that my client promised and failed to appear for hospital care. We never responded to or made a promise about a hospital appointment.
We’ve already sent over an ultrasound photo and proof of pregnancy to Kim Hyun Joong, so we don’t understand why she has to receive another medical examination. There’s no need. If he doesn’t believe after seeing the evidence, it means he doesn’t want to believe she is pregnant.
Kim Hyun Joong’s side made an appointment for a medical examination, and we said we didn’t respond. They’ve been contacting each other back and forth this whole time, but new reports are making it seem as if communication was cut off. How can we believe Kim Hyun Joong’s side? We can only believe if they act honestly. Currently, I am discussing future measures with my client. I’m perplexed about the constant news material that’s not true.
