Malaysian-born MasterChef favourites Adam Liaw & Poh Ling Yeow have teamed up for a brand new food show titled “Malaysia in Australia”, which premiered earlier this month.
In the 6-episode series, viewers get to see this celebrity chef duo explore their Malaysian heritage to create the very best of Malaysian cuisine (such as juicy beef rendang and crispy roti canai) with a unique Aussie twist.
Adam Liaw on working with Poh: “This is the first time Poh and I have been on camera together, so making this series has been a huge amount of fun, but it’s also a valuable opportunity to highlight the connections between Australia and Malaysia, two nations that share such a long history and which are so special to both of us.”
Poh Ling Yeow on blending Australian produce with Malaysian flavours: “We have such great produce here in our own backyard, but what always surprises me is how even the tiniest of places can create delicious experiences. Together, Adam and I are hitting the road to find inspiration for Malaysian cuisine right here in the place we call home.”
Adam Liaw & Poh Ling Yeow’s “Malaysia in Australia” is part of Australia now Malaysia initiative, which seeks to explore the following 3 themes:
- Exchanging Creativity and Culture – engaging communities to explore issues of past, present and future cultural significance, using digital and real time platforms to create shared experiences.
- Engaging People and Potential – drawing on deep personal connections to develop digital platforms that connect leaders, creators and change makers to strengthen collaboration and engagement.
- Exploring Taste and Technology – creating unique opportunities for people to connect through food, science and innovation.
The Australia now Malaysia objective includes:
- Celebrate Australia’s strong relationship with Malaysia at an important time in the bilateral relationship.
- Substantially raise Australia’s profile in Malaysia as an innovative, contemporary and creative nation.
- Promote Australia as a key destination for innovation, investment, education, research and tourism when conditions allow.
- Strengthen Australia-Malaysia trade and economic networks and collaborations, particularly in support of economic recovery following Covid-19.
- Create and consolidate Australia-Malaysia partnerships, and people-to-people links.
Adam is best known for winning “MasterChef Australia Season 2″ in 2010, while Poh is also a familiar face on the show.
