Bruno Mars Gets All Unorthodox-ish

He might not be the man you’d want to take home to meet your parents, but at least he produces good music. Them previous award nominations and trophies can’t be wrong! So when we heard (or rather, saw) that the 27-year-old singer-songwriter has officially released “Unorthodox Jukebox”, we couldn’t wait to review the album.

Could he pull off the same versatility he exuded with, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans”? Let’s find out.

In October, Bruno Mars gave us a little sneak peek into his new work when he released his new single, “Locked Out Of Heaven”. If anything, it sounded very 80s to us. It has got that kinda vibe! Kinda like a hybrid of popular English musician Sting and English rock band The Police, tossed with a dabbling of reggae:

Not bad. Can’t say we didn’t expect him to mix things up.

And then there’s the heartbreaking piano ballad, “When I Was Your Man” which showcased his bare-naked feelings and successfully shattered us into a million pieces. Obviously, Bruno can’t go without pulling at our heartstrings at least once throughout the entire time we were listening to the album. Especially with a voice that sings these lyrics:

Too young, too dumb to realize,

That I should have bought you flowers and held your hand.

Should have gave all my hours when I had the chance,

Take you to every party cause all you wanted to do was dance,

Now my baby is dancing, but she’s dancing with another man.

Although it hurts I’ll be the first to say that I was wrong.

Oh, I know I’m probably much too late,

To try and apologize for my mistakes,

But I just want you to know.

I hope he buys you flowers, I hope he holds your hand.

Give you all his hours when he has the chance.

Take you to every party cause I remember how much you loved to dance.

Do all the things I should have done when I was your man!

Do all the things I should have done when I was your man!

Also, let’s not forget to include his wonderful performance of “When I Was Your Man” on the finale of American reality talent show, “The Voice (Season 3)”. Someone needs to run on stage to give this man a hug:

The other song that cinched our 101% attention instantly was “Natalie”. He clearly channels the late Michael Jackson here and we gotta admit that he wasn’t doing a bad job at it at all – and he knows it. There’s also some of that channeling on “Moonshine“:

Groovy much? 10 songs on “Unorthodox Jukebox” featuring a cocktail of musical genres and slightly more than half an hour’s worth of Bruno Mars goodness. We’d tell you to pick a copy of his new album up immediately – if you haven’t already. Do it, do it now.

Bruno Mars’ “Unorthodox Jukebox” is now available at a music store near you. Alternatively, you could also purchase the album off iTunes here.
