Earlier this week, Pop-R&B singer Justin Timberlake was arrested for driving under the influence. The incident also drew attention to his wife actress Jessica Biel who was not present during his court hearing due to her filming schedule. Fans were devastated to hear the news of him getting into trouble with the law but do you know who wasn’t? That’s right, Britney Spears fans.
As a response, or rather celebration, to their idol’s ex’s arrest, fans of the Grammy winner banded together and encouraged each other to start streaming and purchasing her 2011 hit “Criminal” from her album “Femme Fatale” in order for it to return to the music charts. It looks like their efforts were not in vain as the song made its way back to the top 10 spots in multiple countries.
Yesterday (Wednesday, 19th June), PEOPLE reported that Britney Spear’s “Criminal” has resurfaced on the iTunes Pop chart in the US, taking the number 68 spot, following the arrest of her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. If that wasn’t impressive enough, fans also provided screenshots that the 42-year-old’s song made it back to the top 10 spots in other countries; No. 7 on iTunes Brazil and No. 1 on iTunes Mexico.
Apparently, this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. As you may know, there’s always been a beef between the two fandoms so when Justin released his song “Selfish” earlier this year in January, Britney fans made sure that her song with the same title surpassed his on the charts. They succeeded as the pop legend’s song “Selfish”, also from her 2011 album “Femme Fatale” took the No. 1 spot on iTunes the same month.
