Breakfast (Not Really) At Journal by Plan B!

Inspired by the style of New York deli meets Melbourne café, this place in Publika Solaris Dutamas boasts a unique and quirky décor which provides for a comfy dining experience. For us, “café hang out” hunters and coffee lovers, it was love at first sight!

An edgy alternative to your coffee place norms, “Journal by Plan B” scores winning points for its appearance. The café is divided in two main sections – a cozy indoor dining area with warm lighting and a rugged outdoor section with, get this, chairs hanging from its ceiling.

Yes, chairs. Ceiling. A masterpiece you wouldn’t be able to stop staring at the whole time that you’re there.

Journal by Plan B offers a variety of coffee (from its seasonal selection of beans which are ground fresh in-house daily), and a large pastry plus dessert spread. You can imagine – their dessert bar consists of almost everything from croissants, tarts, muffins, brownies, “cookie bars”, cakes, etc.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, these offerings are pretty hard to resist.

Journal’s menu spans from sandwiches, to salads, to burgers, and pastas. During our visit, we went for their popular “Plan B Breakfast Platter” (RM26), at 3pm. Because at this café, the “Breakfast & Brunch” is served until 6pm daily!

So, why not?

You get to choose the eggs done in any style (e.g. scrambled, sunny side up, fried, soft-boiled, poached). We went with poached, naturally, because it goes well on top of the warm serving of a large piece of toast.

The platter also comes with grilled turkey bacon, golden hash brown, smoked chicken sausage, baked beans (homemade, we believe), and generous servings of sautéed button mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes! Instead of a regular cut-in-half tomato.

Yum. Favourite!

We then washed Journal by Plan B’s Breakfast Platter down with fresh orange juice (so fresh, it’s got pulps!) and chilled out after over a cup of coffee that came with the meal.

All that for only RM26 and a few hours of R&R? We say it’s worth every cent. In fact, we’ll soon make it our regular “joint” or stop for those weekend brunches.
