Local fast food chain restaurant McDonald’s has been hit hard and fast by an ongoing boycott started by Malaysians after protesting their stance in the Israel-Palestine war. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the boycott will be ending any time soon.

Despite McDonald’s denial of supporting Israel, netizens have been persisting in the boycott, even leading to the chain adjusting their business hours to cope. Well, netizens recently clarified why their claims aren’t working. As it turns out, it might have something to do with their faith in the bosses.

Yesterday (22nd November), a photo showing a banner at McDonald’s, reportedly in Pasir Gudang, has been making its rounds on the internet. Said banner has the words: “We are in solidarity with you PALESTINE!” with a small citation of “(from) McD workers” written in the corner of the quote. Unfortunately, any hope of convincing Malaysians of their side in the war was shut down quickly.

“That’s great of the workers! I support your efforts, the only ones I don’t support are your bosses’ products,” one succinctly said. Another stated: “I’d rather the big bosses, the leaders, say this. Only when the leaders make a move do those under them follow suit.” One comment read: “This is bait,” while others mocked the banner, quipping: “Ok, we can eat (there now), let’s go.”

The banner also apparently cemented Malaysian netizens’ determination to keep up the boycott. “Time for us to support the burgers by the roadside,” one stated. “(I’ve) been healthier since avoiding fast food,” another admitted. “Keep it up so that the prices drop further,” a comment read. “Thanks, everyone.” Several parents also added that their kids were actually in favour of the boycott too.

Since the beginning of the boycott, many employees have been open about their situation and how the boycott has affected them. One McDonald’s employee was even offered a job by local celeb DS Vida after taking his story online.

However, it’s clear by this point that Malaysians aren’t keen on taking any prisoners in this war against McDonald’s. Will the boycott ever end? Guess we’ll find out eventually in the future.
