The Brits call it the “Waitrose of the North”, and it is apparently one of Prince Charles’s favourite retailers.
Guess what peeps? The high-end grocery chain from north England, Booths, will be expanding to our local shores. The retailer is looking at opening 19 shops across Malaysia.
According to The Telegraph UK, the supermarket chain will be supplying 40 of its best-selling products, including chutneys, jams, puddings, teas, coffees, flavoured water, breakfast items, and healthy snacks.
Founded by Edwin Henry Booth in 1847, Booths began as a simple tea shop in Blackpool. It then grew into becoming the first supermarket chain in the area. Edwin J. Booth, who is part of the 5th generation of the family, is currently the firm’s chairman.
The UK retailer’s expansion to Malaysia is the result of agreement between Booths and Hong Kong-listed retailer Dairy Farm, who manages Cold Storage, Giant Hypermarkets, and Guardian in Malaysia.
As of now, Booths has yet to announce when or where the 19 high-end food retailers will be located in Malaysia.
