BLACKPINK’s (블랙핑크) Lisa (리사) received a lot of love for her acting debut as Mook in the third season of “The White Lotus”. However, the star admitted that it wasn’t easy to transition from world-renowned idol to actress.
The Thai star recently spoke to TheWrap, sharing her experience auditioning for the HBO series. Lisa, credited as Lalisa Manobal (ลลิษา มโนบาล) for the show, said she decided to audition because she “wanted to switch to a new chapter for her life”. She added, “The White Lotus’ opportunity came in, and I was like, “Why not just give it a try?”. I’m a big fan of “The White Lotus” already – I have to try, even if I don’t get it.”.
The singer recalled her experience, saying, “I sent over my videotape, and I got a callback, and then I went to see (show creator) Mike White and did another audition in front of him, and I got a call that I got the role. It wasn’t easy.” Interestingly, the casting directors had their eyes set on Lisa for the season since it’s set in Thailand. However, Mike and executive producer Dave Bernad weren’t familiar with the idol, nor BLACKPINK, so they treated her audition like every other casting.
Despite that, Dave said Lisa was amazing and that she blew them away with her audition. He also praised her professionalism and dedication while on set. Lisa also spoke about the filming process, saying, “Acting is like a new world to me. I didn’t know what to expect on set. There are a lot of close-up shots and different angles, and I have to do exactly the same (actions). I was like, “This is insane”, but I really had fun while shooting it.”
In addition to receiving praise for her acting skills, Lisa garnered attention for her red-carpet appearances for the show, particularly in Bangkok. During the event, the idol appeared in a custom-made Louis Vuitton dress and jewellery from Bvlgari. It’s also reported that her mother and rumoured boyfriend, Frédéric Arnault, was there at the premiere to show support for the “Rockstar” singer.
Given Lisa’s dedication to her work, we’re sure this role will open up more opportunities for her as an actress. Meanwhile, the singer is gearing up for the release of her first studio album later this month.
