When it comes to women in music, BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) and Taylor Swift are forces to be reckoned with – so what happens when they cross paths? In a recent interview, BLACKPINK member Rosé (로제) shared how her idol Swift ended up mentoring her when preparing for her upcoming solo album, “Rosie”.
i-D magazine recently interviewed the K-pop idol to discuss her upcoming release, songwriting process and more. During the interview, she also spoke about meeting Swift last September. Given the popularity of both stars, the meeting garnered a lot of attention from both media and fans. Many even wondered if the meeting hints at a potential collaboration for Rosé’s album.
According to i-D, the meeting was an impromptu hangout hosted by singer-songwriter Jack Antonoff, a frequent collaborator of Swift’s. As Rosé was working on her album, she shared that the “Fortnight” singer gave her a lot of advice during their meeting. She said, “I told her (Taylor) I’m such a huge fan and just had some questions. As soon as she met me, she’s like, ‘Spill, let me help you out.”
The 35-year-old reportedly shared her experiences with the BLACKPINK member. She even gave Rosé her number to contact her if she had more questions. The 27-year-old was understandably surprised by the gesture, saying, “Who does that? Like, you’re Taylor Swift!”. Nevertheless, Rosé was grateful for the help, saying, “I’m really grateful for her because I was at a moment where I was drowning a little (with the album)”.
The “APT.” singer continued praising Swift, adding, “She is literally the coolest, and she’s such a girl’s girl. She was telling me: make sure to take care of this, this and this – like logistics. She was trying to protect me. Me becoming solo, and independent, it’s not an easy thing. There are a lot of things I should be careful with, and she gave me a rundown on all the things I have to look out for. That was the coolest part. She killed it in the game and was kind enough to walk me through.”
The interview also alludes to Rosé seeing Taylor as a mentor because she has a similar aspiration as the singer-songwriter for her upcoming release, which touches on vulnerability. Regardless, it’s great that Swift is using her experience to help guide her fellow female artists – and we can’t wait to hear “Rosie”.
