The Hong Kong entertainment industry continues to mourn the passing of beloved actor Benz Hui (許紹雄), who passed away in late October at age 76. In a recent interview, his widow and daughter opened up about his death for the first time, sharing details of his final days.
Angeli Lung and Charmaine Hui recently returned to Singapore to handle funeral arrangements, during which they met with local media for the first time since Benz’s death. The actor became a permanent resident of Singapore before his passing so that he could enjoy a semi-retired life with his wife, a Singaporean, and the rest of his family. In their first detailed account, Angeli and Charmaine spoke about Benz’s sudden decline in health.
According to reports, the actor passed away because of a cancer-related organ failure. Angeli revealed that her husband had a tumour removed last year, but was recovering well from the surgery. She said he was following the doctor’s advice and adhering to medication and follow-up visits. However, in mid-October of this year, Benz was admitted to the hospital after feeling unwell. Tests revealed that the cancer cells had suddenly spread to his lungs.
Additionally, the late star was battling a bacterial infection, which triggered multiple organ failure. Benz passed away after two days in critical condition. Angeli revealed her husband never left any final words, noting his death had happened too suddenly. Charmaine added that she still cannot accept her father’s passing, saying she still subconsciously leaves a space for him when taking pictures.
The mother and daughter also spoke about Benz Hui’s funeral service, expressing dismay about the leaks. Previously, Charmaine called out a man from Singapore for exposing details of the private affair, including the family members’ eulogy. Reports later revealed that the man was actor Collin Chee (钱翰群), who had apologised for leaking the funeral’s details. Angeli and Charmaine criticised Collin’s action, calling it disrespectful and saying they felt betrayed.
However, Angeli expresses gratitude towards Benz’s many colleagues and friends from the entertainment industry who accompanied him until his final days. She noted their actions demonstrated how loved and respected Benz was.
