It’s that time of the year again!
Ramadhan month does not only mean fasting, for Malaysians of all ages and races, it means that it’s time to look for good food. The very food-centric community in the country is constantly on the prowl for delectable and unique dishes, and what better way to look for them than to explore some food stalls at the Ramadhan bazaars in Klang Valley?
One of the most well-known Ramadhans bazaar in the Klang Valley, it is located at Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 2, in a neighbourhood right in front of One Utama shopping mall. The bazaar is famed for its murtabak raja, a stuffed pancake filled with lamb, beef, or chicken; kuih tepung pelita, a santan-flavoured layered Malay pudding; and also nasi tomato, which is fried rice topped with tomato and ayam masak merah.
Even if the stuff mentioned here doesn’t suit your taste, we’re sure that you’ll find something you like as this place is humongous!

2. Wangsa Maju
This Ramadhan bazaar is no stranger to anyone who is brought up in or familiar with Cheras. A favourite haunt for locals come Ramadhan time, this massive place boasts around 300 stalls. People with a sweet tooth would surely fall in love with this place, as it provides various desserts such as putu piring, a steamed flour cake filled with palm sugar; sira pisang, a type of sweet keropok commonly found in the east coast of Malaysia; and even kuih bakar, a green pudding flavoured with pandan.
If desserts are not your thing, you can always opt for the savory Japanese takoyaki, Taiwanese fried chicken, or even the Malay-Javanese nasi ambang, which is a mixture of noodles and rice with various other side dishes.

5. SS13, Subang Jaya
In the mood for some goreng pisang cheese?
The pasar Ramadhan in SS13 may be small, but the selections are pretty unique and exotic. Originally located at SS18, the bazaar is known for its scrumptious chicken wings, weirdly delicious goreng pisang cheese, hot putu bambu, and Aida Ariffin’s green nasi kerabu. The murtabak and roti john are not to be missed as well.
Tired of the traditional roti john? You can try the roti jang then, which is a variant of the roti john but with different fillings.

6. Seksyen 17, Petaling Jaya
Known for the RM1 budgeree (curried pineapple), this bazaar at Seksyen 17, Petaling Jaya is another popular spot for food hunters. Aside from the usual servings of roti johns and murtabak, this market is also famous for its nasi tomato and nasi kukus ayam rempah served with gulai.
The sweet kuih-muihs, such as seri muka and seri ayu, are sold out quickly. So be there early before it’s gone!

7. Bangsar
Though the Bangsar bazaar has reduced in size, there are still many delicious choices that will definitely make your stomach growl. The pasembur, a Malaysian salad consisting of assorted vegetables, prawn fritters, and fried seafoods served with a sweet and spicy peanut sauce, is one of the most famous food in the market. Other popular stalls include Portuguese-style seafood, Kelantanese nasi dagang, and Raja Murtabak.
Want somewhere to sit while you enjoy your scrumptious food? The Bangsar food court is right in front of the bazaar, so you can always walk over for a seat. Just remember to order something and don’t hog the seats for too long!

8. Shah Alam Stadium
Known for being one of the biggest Ramadhan markets in Selangor, The Shah Alam Stadium bazaar is famous for its diverse choices. Apart from the usual “buka puasa” favourites like murtabak, chicken rice, and nasi kerabu, the bazaar also offers Western and Arab dishes.
We recommend you to try a roti john stall called Papa John, especially the Papa John Kambing, as it is said to be “a class above the other roti johns”.
