#BatmanvSuperman: Jena Malone Set To Appear as Female Robin?

Warner Bros certainly has a way to get us to pay attention to their film because now, rumour has it that upcoming DC Comics film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will star a first-ever female Robin in the Batman Cinematic Universe!

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the studio is casting “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” actress Jena Malone for a mysterious role as she has been seen on set for months. Rumour has it that she might be playing the ginger-haired Batman’s sidekick, Carrie Kelly aka the female Robin from “The Dark Knight Returns“.

Female Robin

The rumour originated from a report from Michigan’s WILX, where an anonymous extra risked a multimillion-dollar lawsuit (for violating the movie’s nondisclosure agreements) to reveal that a female Robin character will be featured in the script. It was also rumoured that Nightwing, the former Robin will be featured in the film as well.

Warner Bros has yet to respond to the rumour, but Malone’s Instagram post from 2 weeks ago has indicated she might be playing the role as she has dyed her hair red, similar to the female Robin’s hair colour.

However, Cinema Blend also pointed out that Malone might be playing another redhead in the Batman Cinematic Universe, Barbara Gordon aka the Batgirl. This is attributed to the fact that Carrie Kelley is only 13 years old when she becomes Batman’s sidekick. On top of that, more stories need to be told about Kelley as Dick Grayson and Jason Todd were the first few Batman sidekicks.

If Malone is going to be the female Robin, it fits the rumour about Nightwing, who will be the former Robin that has grown to adulthood. There has been no further details about “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” yet but Warner Bros did recently announced their full movie slate for DC Comics films.
