Malaysia was left devastated after the news of the Batang Kali landslide tragedy made the headlines this past week. Just recently, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) had released the identities of 21 victims who died in the incident.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation has been ongoing continuously by the SAR team since last Friday (16 December 2022). They weren’t alone though. The SAR team’s companion, the K9 dog detection unit, has also been working tirelessly in the operation to locate the buried victims of the landslide.

With a keen sense, the presence of this four-legged hero has ben vital in assisting the rescue teams to search the ground through thick mud, slush and even the rain. Unfortunately, during the critical time of the Rescue op, a K9 detection dog, named Blake, was had burnt out!

The poor canine apparently passed out after working nonstop for two consecutive days and was given rest. Datuk Norazam Khamis, the director of Selangor Fire & Rescue (JBPM) department said, “After two days of slogging more than the allotted time, they too badly need to rest and recuperate though they are not injured. That’s why at this stage, we will rotate them in turn. We will start with three (detection dogs) first, then we’ll use the rest.”

Norazam also revealed that there are 11 tracking dogs placed on standby at the scene to assist in the search so far. Six of them are from the JBPM, four from the Royal Malaysian Police (PRDM) and one from the Army. “We may ask for an increase, if necessary,” said the Fire department official.

Blake si hero penyelamat mangsa tanah runtuh di tapak campsite. Blake dilaporkan kepenatan namun tiada kecederaan berlaku terhadapnya sepanjang bertugas dengan penuh kesetiaan.

Terima kasih Blake kami ucapkan. Rehat cukup-cukup okay ❤️
