Yet another Hollywood couple bit the dust.
Following the news of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s much-publicised divorce, things just got “complicated” for Avril Lavigne as well.
On 2nd September, the pop punk princess took to her Instagram account to announce that she has separated from her husband Chad Kroeger, frontman of Nickelback.
Lavigne began dating Kroeger in July 2012. Their relationship blossomed after working together in March 2012 for Lavigne’s 5th album. They were engaged after only one month of dating.
On 1st July 2013, the couple invited 50 people including their closest family members and friends to their wedding ceremony at the Château de La Napoule, a reconstructed medieval castle on the Mediterranean Sea in the South of France.
However, split rumours began dogging the couple since last September. In response to the split reports, Kroeger told ET Canada that he found the chatter “amusing” and “ridiculous”.
He said:
You know my dad calls me up and he’s just like, “I haven’t slept in two days, what’s going on?” I’m like, “Dad you’re not buying all this crap are you?”
At that time, an insider told E! News that the pair had been “fighting a lot” and there was “jealousy on both sides,” but they were determined to work things out. The source, who did not foresee the bitter breakup, even added that Lavigne had hoped to start a family with Kroeger.
Lavigne has been taking a break from the spotlight as she revealed earlier in April that she was battling Lyme disease. However, she briefly performed as a singer with Taylor Swift last Saturday during the 1989 World Tour stop in San Diego.
On the other hand, Nickelback was forced to cancel the remaining dates of their 2015 “No Fixed Address Tour” last month as Kroeger is battling health issues and recovering from vocal rest.
This was Lavigne’s 2nd marriage and Kroeger’s 1st marriage. Lavigne was previously married to Sum 41 lead vocalist Deryck Whibley.
