As embarrassing as it is for all of us to admit, let’s be honest: we didn’t achieve any of our 2022 resolutions. Whether it was detoxing from social media, doing rigorous workouts weekly, or just reading that ONE book that has escaped us all this while – our grandiose goals ended up going down the drain. We may have started strong during the first few weeks of 2022, but somewhere down the line, with the kind of goals we had aimed for, we’d basically set ourselves up for failure.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – life just happened to have taken the wheel, and before you know it, it’s 2023. However, your failure to complete your New Year’s Resolution ends here, because we want you to successfully achieve each and every goal by the end of this year. As the calendar turns from one year to the next, it’s only natural for you to wish to reinvent yourself to welcome a new period in life. But we do, at some point, have to pull ourselves back and list out all the realistic New Year’s Resolutions that we all wish to successfully achieve.

In doing so, we have four ideal tips on how you can set and manage your New Year’s Resolutions so that they’ll stick.

Make Realistic and Specific Goal To Achieve

When making your list for this year’s New Year’s resolutions, simply writing “losing weight” or “read a book” aren’t going to cut it. Instead of making such an ambiguous list, it’s better to list out specific, yet realistic goals for you to achieve. Instead of putting “losing weight” or “read a book”, focus on something more concrete like “lose 7kg” or “read three books”. That way you won’t feel as pressured to reach those goal and won’t be as devastated and demotivated when you don’t achieve them.

It’s all about playing mind games with yourself here folks. By choosing specific, concrete and realistic goals, you can easily expect and plan out the entire year on how you can reach them, without the burden of overwhelming yourself.

Make Goals With Your Friends

Achieving your New Year’s resolutions is gratifying in and of itself. However, you know what they say, “the more the merrier”. Sharing and achieving your goals with your friends or partner makes the journey so much more memorable and enjoyable. Plus, you can keep each other motivated so that you won’t lose any momentum. The end goal here is to finish the race together, and uplift one another so you can make new resolutions next year.

Don’t Repeat The Same History

“New year, new me” means putting the past behind you – and that goes with your previous resolutions. If you couldn’t check off last year’s resolutions, and are planning to revisit the idea again this year, there’s a high chance that you may repeat the same mistakes again. History tends to repeat itself and what we’re tying to do is avoid that by making your resolutions more foolproof. Which means more realistic, achievable and concrete goals.

It Doesn’t Happen In Just A Day

Rome wasn’t built in a day and the same goes for New Year’s resolutions. People tend to forget that the whole point of achieving resolutions is the journey and the changes you make throughout the year. Resolutions are supposed to be a year-long process, so take your time. Don’t tackle these resolutions straight on since you could run out of steam. Begin slowly and with small steps that will eventually help you attain your objective. While it may be a slow start, the tiny adjustments you make in your life will become a habit, raising the chances of them being a part of your life in the long term.
