We’re always hoping that our favourite artists will include Malaysia in their world tour since we’re usually overlooked. It’s been proven that many dedicated fans are willing to spend a lot of money to buy tickets to see their idols live on stage.

However, with the hype surrounding Coldplay’s upcoming show in Kuala Lumpur, one must now stay vigilant online cause this Twitter user recently shared that scammers are taking advantage of the excitement to make easy money by selling fake concert tickets.

SOURCE: TWITTER

Yesterday (Tuesday, 16th May), Twitter user @iamdrjoe or Joe tweeted a screenshot of a suspicious advertisement he saw on Instagram to warn others of a potential scam. The ad showed a company called LiveTicket2U “announcing” that UK singer Ed Sheeran will be performing in Malaysia on 23rd September and that tickets are now on sale.

Skeptical of the IG ad, the dental surgeon did a little digging only to discover that Ed Sheeran will actually be touring the United States on the date mentioned in the poster, further proving his suspicions. The doctor then posted a video to show the scammer’s efforts of putting up a ticketing website that looks legitimate in order to fool their victims.

“Please don’t fall for their tricks. They’re doing the devil’s work,” he tweeted. Ed Sheeran wasn’t the only international act “announced” on the site as other artists such as Maroon 5, John Legend, The Boyz, and Black Eyed Peas were also being used to lure in the victims to purchase the fake tickets.

Joe’s posts quickly went viral and many netizens thanked the young man for warning everyone about the scam. Some also used the opportunity to post their findings in the Twitter thread of scammers and scalpers advertising ticket sales, especially for the upcoming Coldplay concert.
