Angry LRT Passengers Demand Solutions For Crowd Control & Frequency Issues

If you guys don’t take the LRT to work then you can consider yourselves lucky. Traffic jams on the road may not be better but at least you can move and breathe in your own car whereas in the LRT, you can simply sleep standing up without having to worry about falling down. That’s how crowded it’s been. But why? How?

This issue has been going on for quite a while and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any better these past few weeks. There hasn’t been any good systematic crowd control nor has there been improvement on frequencies and passengers are getting angrier everyday.

Harini ada lagi best. They stopped us sebelum eskalator nak naik ke Pasar Seni KJ line. Nak control crowd dekat platform. Laluan sebelah tak stop pun. Best kan? Everyday macam ni weh! Ada solution lain tak? Kalau frequensi bertambah takde kot kes camni pic.twitter.com/YeC8o6y7dO

If you’ve been taking the LRT to work then you’d hear the announcements enough times that the train frequency is getting less saying that there’ll be a train every 5 (or 10) minutes. If you don’t believe that then prepare to be surprised. Several Twitter users posted photos and videos of their experience at their respective LRT stations showing the current situation of the crowds lining up to get on board the trains.

User @nrjwznl posted a photo of people lining up from the escalator at the Pasar Seni to Kelana Jaya Line. “It’s been like this everyday! Is there another solution? This wouldn’t happen if they just increase the frequency!”, she said. Another user posted a photo along with a 2 second video showing people pushing and shoving while lining up at an unspecified LRT station. The caption reads, “And we’re mostly 50% returning to office!.”

Netizens replied to these tweets sharing their experiences as well as letting out their frustrations. Many tagged Rapid KL demanding them to solve this issue while some tagged the Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport in hopes they become aware that the people are angry.

Jalan penuh, tren penuh. And we’re mostly only 50% returning to office. 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/VCPSF3NvEG

As seen above, Rapid KL has been made aware of the crowd control situation by replying to netizens’ tweets but did not address the frequency issue. Other than the reply, there’s no official statement nor solutions given by Rapid KL so far. After seeing all this, would you still take the LRT to commute to work?
