The Amazfit Balance 2 smartwatch is finally here! Pre-orders opened on 29th June 2025, and the device will officially launch in Malaysia on 4th July 2025, retailing at RM1,299. As expected, this latest model feels much more premium compared to its predecessor, the Amazfit Balance, which debuted back in 2023. We won’t dive too deeply into the specs or how much of an upgrade it is, though, to be clear, it absolutely is an upgrade.
Instead, we’ll analyse how – despite the Amazfit Balance 2 being primarily designed for sports enthusiasts and people constantly on the go – it’s also a solid choice for everyday users who may not have the luxury of time or access to fitness facilities to lead an active lifestyle. In fact, it’s surprising how many of the watch’s features can go a long way in helping to improve your overall wellbeing. Here are 5 things I love about the Amazfit Balance 2:
1. Long-lasting Battery Life
Let’s start with the battery life, because let’s face it, no one wants a smartwatch that needs constant charging. It is said that the Amazfit Balance 2 has 21-days’ worth of battery life on a single charge. After receiving the unit, I charged the watch to just 90% to really put it to the test. Nearly a week later, the battery is still at 64%, which, in my opinion, is pretty impressive. Of course, battery life will vary depending on usage.
If you’re mainly using the device to check the time or receive email and message notifications, then you likely won’t need to worry about it running out of juice too quickly. However, if you’re using it to track your overall health, fitness progress and sleep, then it’ll definitely drain a little bit of power, but I can confidently say that it’ll last you at least a week or two on a single charge, which is good enough already.
2. Workout Features & Zepp App
I’m not particularly into sports or going to the gym, but I do perform light workouts and exercises at home, including dancing, to stay active. As someone in his 30s, I’ve become more mindful about taking care of my body and overall health. What I love most about the Zepp App is how it allows you to personalise your workouts and set weekly fitness goals on the Zepp Coach feature. The watch then tracks your progress, helping you stay on top of your routine. Plus, you have over 170 workout modes to choose from!
Some may find the reminders annoying, possibly due to exhaustion, stress, lack of motivation, or simply being occupied with other errands. However, just like a real-life coach, it helped remind me to be more disciplined and stay on track on my workout days and rest days. Also, as someone who sits at an office desk for hours, I find it particularly helpful that the watch reminds me to stand up, do some stretching or go for a short walk for a few minutes after detecting inactivity for an hour.
If you’re someone who’s worried about not getting enough steps in or burning enough calories, when you walk for a certain distance and time, the Amazfit Balance 2 will automatically detect it as a workout. So, whether you choose to accept or cancel the workout notification when it pops up, your steps will be recorded. Honestly, I was surprised to learn just how much I walk in a day and how many calories I burn, thanks to the Amazfit Balance 2.
3. Mic & Speakers
The Amazfit Balance 2 comes equipped with a microphone on the bottom side and two speakers at the back, which are surprisingly more powerful than I had expected. While it can’t play videos, it does support music playback and includes [insert number] GB of storage for your audio files.
As someone who enjoys listening to music and dancing, I find the built-in speakers surprisingly useful — and more fun — as I can actually feel the beat vibrations through the watch on my wrist. Sure, you could just play music from your phone or a Bluetooth speaker, but it’s still nice to have another option. Plus, if you receive a call and don’t have your earbuds or headphones nearby, the speaker is loud enough for you to hear the caller clearly.
4. The Camera Remote Button
Okay, I know many smartwatches come with this feature, but for a device designed with sporty and active users in mind, how can you not appreciate having a camera remote button? I love how seamlessly the watch connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth. You can set your phone up on a tripod, then simply press the button on your watch to snap a photo. It’s quick, convenient, and genuinely useful.
You take a quick snap right away or set a 3-second delay on the shutter button, which acts as a timer before the photo is taken. Of course, you always have that option to set the timer on your phone’s camera app itself if you need a little more time to coordinate and pose for the photo.
5. Sleep Tracking Feature
I hate to admit it, but like many people, I don’t have the best sleep schedule. I often stay up late playing video games or doom-scrolling on my phone. While I can usually estimate how much sleep I’ll get each night, I don’t have much insight into how that affects my mental and physical readiness, or my stress levels, after a night of little rest.
After testing out the sleep tracking feature on the Amazfit Balance 2, I discovered a lot about my sleep patterns. I wore the smartwatch to bed, and it has genuinely helped me take my rest more seriously. The data collected is presented via the Zepp app, which highlights the areas of my sleep metrics that need more attention. As you can see from the screenshots, my Deep Sleep results haven’t been great over the past few days, and it’s clearly had an impact on my mental recovery.
After learning all this, I’ve set a bedtime reminder on the smartwatch to help ensure I get enough sleep to take on the day, something I definitely should’ve done a long time ago. Now that I have more detailed data at hand, I’m committed to improving my sleep schedule. Here’s to hoping for some positive progress ahead.
Overall Thoughts
Yes, the Amazfit Balance 2 is designed with sporty and active users in mind, but I personally find it to be incredibly useful for people like me – those who might not be prioritising their health as much as they should. I’ve always intended to improve my overall well-being, but never really knew where or how to start. With this device, I’m glad to say I’ve finally taken the first step towards a healthier lifestyle.
There are still many features on the Amazfit Balance 2 that I’ve yet to explore, but I’m looking forward to testing them out when I get the chance. At RM1,299, it’s actually quite affordable compared to competitors offering similar features. And even if it’s slightly over your budget, it’s still a worthwhile investment if you’re looking to make a positive change in your lifestyle, or at the very least, keep better track of your health.
