“Stop Hiring The Resume & Start Hiring Attitude”: Alleged HR Publicly Shames Candidate Online

There have been countless stories about horrible bosses but there are actually just as many similar stories about a company’s Human Resources (HR) Department. HR is the one in charge of finding, hiring, training, and supporting new employees but they can be quite condescending as well.

Instead of sharing knowledge and tips on how candidates can improve themselves when applying for jobs, this alleged HR employee decided to shame them instead. Of course, this action was not well-received by netizens.

A couple of days ago, a netizen who is presumably an HR employee posted a photo of a candidate’s resume on Twitter. As seen in the photo above, the unnamed candidate submitted a simple resume to apply for a Senior Engineer position at an unspecified company. However, the HR was not satisfied with the submission and captioned the post, “[They say] Stop hiring the resume and start hiring attitude but here’s the resume I received.”

This post went viral shortly after with many netizens calling out the employee out for shaming the candidate for their resume on social media. Some felt that it was unnecessary for him to post the photo of the resume if he was only going to talk negatively about the candidate. Others felt that as long as the candidate provided all the necessary information to show their qualifications, it should be enough to land them at least a job interview.

Netizens also believed that even if the resume submitted was not good quality or if the candidates themselves were not qualified, HR should just ignore the application rather than post them online. After much backlash, the employee clarified that he was only dissatisfied with the printing quality of the resume, not the content, saying that candidates should submit resumes that are clear and readable.

While the original poster does have a point, we personally think that it still doesn’t necessarily warrant anyone to just shame a candidate online for whatever reason. Perhaps a simple reminder and/or tips for future candidates would’ve sufficed.
