Since its controversial issue of socks with the word ‘Allah’ on them, KK Super Mart has been under fire from various parties. Unfortunately, it seems that in spite all attempts to rectify the matter, they’ve been getting into more trouble since.

After the nationwide backlash, KK Super Mart has been under close scrutiny from authority figures, with impromptu inspections being carried out at various branches. Well, this has led to two branches in Johor, one in Kluang and Jementah, Segamat being ticketed and closed respectively after further infractions were discovered.

Shortly after the issue blew up, the KK Super Mart in Kluang, Johor underwent surprise inspections twice in the span of three days, on 18th and 20th March. In their Facebook post, the Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) confirmed that the mart was no longer keeping or selling the offending socks.

Yet, the mart was subsequently fined for displaying unauthorised advertisements and placing their goods in public places, thereby causing obstruction. “The Kluang Municipal Council will continue monitoring (the store) to ensure situations like this do not happen again,” the post stated. “(We) will not hesitate to take strict action against any business premises if it has gone viral for other acts before.”

As for the store in Jementah, their infraction was taken far more seriously, especially after it was discovered they were selling alcohol without a license. Several branded liquor were reportedly confiscated from the store and the mart was ordered to be closed, with a fine being issued to the owners as well. However, said offending socks too were not found on the premises.

KK Super Mart is certainly in a precarious position with Malaysian citizens right now. However, we do hope authorities will persist in doing what is right, both by the law and in the eyes of God. In the meantime, it seems KK Super Mart will need to tread carefully as they continue their business.
