After leaving YG Entertainment, K-pop group AKMU (악뮤) is making moves on their own. According to reports, the brother-sister duo will establish their own agency and go independent after 12 years under the renowned K-pop label.
On 20th January 2026 (Tuesday), AKMU’s Weverse fan platform posted an announcement titled “[Notice] Contract Transfer of AKMU Community”. The notice announced that the ownership of AKMU’s fan community will be transferred and changed to “Fountain of Inspiration”, following the end of the group’s exclusive contract with YG Entertainment. The contract transfer date has been set for 27th January 2026.

It’s believed that “Fountain Of Inspiration” is the name of AKMU’s new agency. This move cements previously industry predictions that the duo would go independent after leaving YG Entertainment. Many speculated that the two would establish an agency with their longtime manager. As for the agency’s name, it’s believed to be a reference to member Lee Chanhyuk’s (이찬혁) series of exhibitions, held in 2023 and 2025.
In November 2025, AKMU announced that they’re leaving YG Entertainment after being with the company since their debut in 2014. The duo, previously known as Akdong Musician, signed with the label after winning “K-pop Star Season 2”. In the 12 years they’ve been under YG Entertainment, AKMU has released three studio albums and three mini-albums. Both Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Suhyun (이수현) also made their solo debuts under the agency.

Fans have reacted to the news with cheers, wishing the duo the best in their new journey. Many also hoped to see them return with new music soon. Good luck to AKMU with their new agency, and we hope to hear more good news from them soon.
