Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has gotten quite a lot of flak lately for several issues, including their disappointing in-flight meals. In case you haven’t heard, the airline has ended its partnership with Brahim’s Holding Bhd, which has provided MAS with its in-flight catering for over 25 years.

While no company has been named as Brahim’s replacement, a familiar name has offered to partner with the airline.

According to the New Straits Times, Capital A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has shown interest in having AirAsia’s subsidiary airline caterer, Santan, partner with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to provide in-flight meals. He added that he’s also open to a joint venture with the group to purchase the 70% stake they don’t own in Brahim’s Food Services (BFS) Sdn Bhd. He said, “If AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines work together, we could make so much business together. That kitchen can go to Thailand, it can go everywhere.”

However, the CEO said the potential partnership will depend on the price of Brahim’s 70% stake because he thinks the RM129 million price, which excludes any goodwill, is too high. He also mentioned that Capital A had previously expressed interest in Santan working with MAS, even before the BFS partnership ended. He also disputed that BFS is a monopoly in the airline catering industry because other caterers, such as Santan and Pos Aviation Sdn Bhd, are available.
