If you’re a frequent traveller, you’ll likely be familiar with AirAsia’s services at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, also known as Subang Airport. The airline has long been a popular choice for passengers booking domestic flights from this airport.

However, it has now been confirmed that AirAsia will no longer offer domestic services at the aforementioned airport. In an official statement, the company announced it would be moving these services to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 next month. Here’s what we know:

According to the statement, AirAsia will relocate its domestic services from Subang Airport to KLIA 2, effective from 7th April 2025. The move is aimed at optimising operations in response to growing demand and enhancing the overall passenger experience. One of the reasons for the relocation is the significant increase in passenger volumes between Kuala Lumpur and key destinations such as Kota Kinabalu and Kuching over the years.

KLIA 2 is considered the best option to accommodate this rising traffic, as well as to ensure a seamless guest experience. “While Subang Airport has provided valuable proximity and easier access for city dwellers, KLIA T2’s infrastructure supports connectivity needs at scale—particularly during peak travel periods,” said Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra, CEO of AirAsia Malaysia.

If you’re concerned about your flights during the Hari Raya celebrations, there’s no need to worry. The statement notes that AirAsia will continue operating from Subang Airport during the festive season to ensure a smooth transition. The airline will also provide comprehensive Service Recovery Options (SROs), including complimentary flight changes, credit accounts, or full refunds, to minimise any inconvenience.
