AirAsia Ride Users Expose Driver Of Charging Extra RM50 For Fake “Toll Fare”

Booking an e-hailing ride can come with the possibility of not arriving at your destination – but you probably won’t expect to be cheated a substantial amount of money. Not long after a Grab driver cheated a group of female riders, AirAsia Ride users are now exposing an alleged scam.

Twitter user @/CixotZihan recently tweeted at AirAsia to complain about being wrongfully charged for a ride. According to the tweet, the booked trip was a 4km ride from Kampung Baru to Sunway Putra Mall, costing RM6. However, the user revealed that the driver, Siti Aisyah Binti Abdullah, never reached the pickup point, meaning the man never got in the car. Unfortunately, despite the no-show, the fare was already deducted from the man’s bank account – and he also got charged an extra RM50 for toll fare.

After tweeting about the incident, hoping to get AirAsia’s attention, the man received tons of responses from netizens. Many were shocked at the total fare, saying that they’ve gone further than 4km for less. Others say this is an example of why you shouldn’t use your card to pay for e-hailing rides.

Surprisingly, another AirAsia ride user experienced the same issue with the driver. In her tweet, the woman shared a screenshot of her booking, which showed that she was also wrongfully charged an additional RM50 for toll fare. Another tweet revealed that the driver had also overcharged a ride while driving for Grab, leading many to believe the driver in the white Proton Saga may be a scammer. However, another e-hailing driver pointed out that the issue may be the fault of the system rather than the driver, as fare pricing is out of the driver’s control.

As of writing, the user has reached out to AirAsia’s customer service but will only get a refund within 14-30 working days. We hope AirAsia will take appropriate action to avoid the same issue happening to other passengers.
