Last month, actor Azhar Sulaiman posted on social media to advise his children to marry someone of royal status or at least someone who lives in the same state as travelling during the festive celebrations would be more convenient. Most netizens seemed to agree and even shared their own balik kampung experiences with the star.
If his children’s future partners do not meet those requirements, the actor said that he wouldn’t mind it if his son ends up marrying a member of the Malaysian girl group The Gadys. In fact, he revealed that he’ll even accept the possibility of marrying a member himself. Here’s what he said:
For context, The Gadys are a girl group that consists of members Ayunie Rizal, Aznie Azmi and Thamiera Chan. The group was heavily criticised for their recent performance at the Anugerah KNKV Viral 2024 over the weekend and videos of that performance went viral on social media. It was reported that the disastrous performance was due to technical issues with the music.
Azhar Sulaiman was one of the few who came to the trio’s defence but not in the way you might expect. The 52-year-old posted a screenshot of The Gadys’s performance on his Instagram with a caption that reads, “Although they were criticised, we will never know what Allah has in store for us and these girls could be fated to be your spouse. I personally would not oppose to that”.
He replied to his own post in the comments section saying, “If I criticise them too much, I’m afraid that my son Rees would end up marrying one of the members, or that I would end up marrying one of them myself”. Netizens were mostly amused by the captions saying that it had nothing to do with The Gadys’s singing. Others continued to write harsh comments about the vocal group with some insisting that the members have no talent.
We can’t be too sure if Azhar Sulaiman actually meant what he said but netizens sure got a kick out of it at least. As for the girl group themselves, although they were well aware of the negative comments, it remains to be seen if they’ll react to the actor’s post about them.
