If you’ve been keeping up with the local entertainment scene, you’ll know that the 10th season of Gegar Vaganza is on air right now – but the show’s run hasn’t been as smooth sailing as fans may hope.
After rumours of bias and bullying, the show is getting hit with more criticism after their main sponsor, Farm Fresh, alleges mistreatment from the production team. The claims come from Farm Fresh COO Azmi Zainal, who took to Facebook to voice his frustrations about how the production team continuously cuts down his chances to promote the dairy brand. He noted that the team made him present a poem during his one-minute promotion segment, which, in his words, “bored the audience” and led to no attention during his segment.
He also said his one-minute was cut short during the previous broadcast, which angered him. He even approached the production team in the operation room for an explanation of why they cut his segment short. Azmi also mentioned that the one minute is crucial for his business, so he has voiced his frustration to the Astro team, urging them to show more support and respect for sponsors.
He added that the sponsorship deal is to promote his business and boost sales, so it’s not just him trying to get his 5 minutes of fame. The COO also said he had to work hard to sponsor millions to Astro for the Gegar Vaganza programme. While parts of Azmi’s post seemed lighthearted, many netizens have voiced their support for the COO.
Some have mentioned that they also noticed the mistreatment while watching the show at home, saying that Azmi’s speeches tend to get cut to give room for videos. Netizens also suggested that the brand should stop sponsoring the show and give their money to more beneficial programs. Celebrity chef Chef Zam also commented and shared the same sentiments about television productions. He said, “TV stations would throw their pride away when asking for sponsorships. But when they get it, they don’t value their sponsors. That’s why Datuk Seri Vida and Datuk Aliff Syukri are always mad (at TV stations)!”
What do you think about the COO’s post? Was he right to call out Astro?
