Every week brings something new to town. It can be hard to keep track of every major happening – but we did it! And we had so much fun! Here’s a list of dope events we went to over the past week:
1. BIGO MY SG Awards Gala 2023
@hypemalaysia Here’s what went down during the BIGO MY SG Awards Gala 2023 event last night. #bigomysgawardsgala2023 #bigo #bigolive #bigomalaysia #bigomy
BIGO Live held its 2nd annual ‘BIGO MY SG Awards Gala 2023’ at the Roofino Skydining restaurant in KL. The one-night-only event, which honours the biggest BIGO Live streamers in Malaysia and Singapore, saw Jing Yi (BIGO ID: DD6666), Sam (BIGO ID: SamMit2502) and Dino (BIGO ID: 286492436) winning “Top 1 Majestic Stars”, “Top 1 Mighty Stars”, and “Top 1 Rising Stars” awards, respectively; while Key Media (BIGO ID: keymedia) and Todak (BIGO ID: datoshahir) bagged the “Top 1 Annual Chinese Agency” and “Top 1 Annual Malay Agency” awards, respectively.
The bash also featured special appearances by some of Malaysia’s most renowned performing artistes, including Aina Abdul, Choo Hao Ren and Priscilla Abby. Attendees also had the chance to be part of the event’s celebrations, as they participated in lucky draw sessions throughout the night, with winners getting their hands on exclusive prizes, including limited-edition BIGO Live merchandise.
2. Launch Of Aquaria KLCC’s ‘Gong Sea Bunnies’ CNY Campaign
@hypemalaysia Celebrate a Gong Sea Bunnies CNY with the Underwater Lion Dance performance & more at Aquaria KLCC! #aquaria #aquariaklcc #godofprosperity
We were invited to the launch of Aquaria KLCC’s “Gong Sea Bunnies” campaign, as part of its Chinese New Year celebrations. The show made quite a splash with us, and we’re sure visitors will love it too, as they’ll be able to participate in a range of enjoyable activities. The unique Underwater Lion Dance performance is staged at 11am on Wednesdays and Fridays; while the God of Prosperity makes his special appearance at 1pm on Thursdays and Saturdays, and between 12pm and 2:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for the underwater feeding sessions. The campaign ends on February 5th.

3. Launch Of New Outlet & Identity By Royal Sporting House
Royal Sporting House was first established in 1977 to provide a platform for those wanting to pursue their passion for sport. Since then, with the help of big name sporting brands such as Nike, adidas, PUMA, Under Armour and more, people across Southeast Asia have been able to gear up and face many different sport challenges.
But with the recent launch of its newest store, Royal Sporting House also unveiled its new brand identity; to be a home for all. The brand aims to help everyone from all walks of life “find their rhythm” through sport. With the focus on prioritising customers’ fun and confidence, Royal Sporting House’s new flagship store in Tropicana Gardens Mall will be embodying its new values; from façade to service.
In fact, it already began embodying its core values during the Royal Sporting House’s ‘housewarming’ for its new outlet! Guests and media personnel alike were treated to a variety of performances, including a classy fashion show, with plenty of activities for attendees to try out. Guests could test their luck with a gashapon machine to win an iPhone 14 Pro, or attempt their “Sprint n Win” challenge for an Apple Watch. Needless to say, they certainly got their guests, and the launch, all warmed up!
4. Special Screening Of “Ma I Love You”
Although Chinese New Year film “Ma, I Love You” is slated to screen on 22nd January, we were able to get a sneak peek of the movie before its screening – and, needless to say, it delivers exactly as promised. “Ma, I Love You” chronicles what it’s like when a child is ready to leave the nest and how it’s like for the parents who need to decide whether to let them go. With Malaysian-esque humour and tearjerking moments, “Ma, I Love You” is a film that’s perfect for the whole family.
But we have to admit, the best part was getting to meet the director, Chiu Keng Guan, actors Ong Ai Leng, Siow Li Xuan, Loh Lai Kan, Felina Chia and Phei Yong during the press conference after! The director and cast were pleased to share their journey in making the film, including how it’s impacted them personally. No spoilers, of course, but as actress Ai Leng pointed out, “Ma, I Love You” teaches us about letting go of the things we love.
5. Launch Of Malaysia’s First Paris Baguette Bakery Café

6. Launch Of ‘Natura Pal’ Skincare Line By Emina
Malaysian beauty enthusiasts are already in love with Indonesian skincare and cosmetics brand, Emina, thanks to its ethos of providing excellent products at reasonable prices. But the brand recently provided more reasons for customers to love it, with the launch of a skincare line with naturally-sourced components that help both the skin and Mother Earth.
Natura Pal by Emina is a skincare line designed exclusively for teenagers that encourages not just healthy skin, but the beauty of nature and environmental conservation. The launch saw the unveiling of Natura Pal’s Gel Cleanser, Toner Essence, Splash Serum, and Gel Moisturizer, comprised of 100% Natural Pea Extract and Triple Protection+. All the product packaging was created with 10% less plastic and is 100% recyclable, thanks to the use of FSC paper obtained from sustainably-managed forests.
The event was attended by members of the media, top teen influencers/content creators, and the Head of Marketing for Paragon Corp, Karina Anindita, who spoke highly of Emina’s priority in going green and promoting sustainable living that will hopefully leave a big, positive impact in the beauty industry and the environment.
Emina will be visiting 27 schools in the Klang Valley as part of a longer-term sustainability initiative to promote information about Skin 101, as well as the importance of sustainable living.
