Has anyone been missing Song Hye Kyo on the screen? Worry not, the talented actress will be making her comeback with the upcoming K-drama, “The Glory” (더 글로리). Apart from Hye Kyo, the Netflix series also stars Lee Do Hyun, Lim Ji Yeon, Park Sung Hoon, and also Yeom Hye Ran.
“The Glory” tells the story of a woman who was a victim of bullying in her youth. Hye Kyo takes on the role of Moon Dong Eun, who was a victim of brutal school violence. After she dropped out of high school, she vows to seek revenge on the perpetrators and bystanders who made her life miserable. Meanwhile, Ji Yeon plays Park Yeon Jin. She was the leader of the group of bullies who had committed harsh violence against Dong Eun.
Aside from Hye Kyo’s splendid performance as the vengeful bully victim, one of the major highlights worth mentioning for the upcoming drama would be Ji Yeon’s realistic take on the antagonist character Yeon Jin. In particular, “The Glory” marks the first time Ji Yeon landed the role of the bad guy! To quote the drama’s screenwriter Kim Eun Sook, she wanted to cast someone who’s “angelic on the outside but has a devil’s heart.”
During the press conference of the series, the two actresses also recalled the “legendary scene” where both of them eventually meet up at the school gym. They revealed that they really went all out and slapped each other during that particular scene.
According to Ji Yeon, “It was a very tough scene to portray the emotions of Yeon-jin because I was wondering, how would this woman feel? She came face to face with someone she was so mean to, and she had bullied as a teenager.”
The “High Society” star added, “And I remember director Ahn (Gil Ho) said, we cannot make mistakes in this scene, let’s do it in a single take. Let’s just go in one go. So, I remember Hye Kyo and me, our faces were pretty red afterward.” Hye Kyo then chimed in, “I have worked as an actor for quite a long time, and I think it was pretty much the first time I was slapped that hard.”
“And I think it’s probably the same for Ji Yeon as well, when I was first slapped, I went completely blank, I kind of blanked out and I couldn’t remember the next line. And we both saw ourselves in the mirror and saw that we had that very red trace of a hand on our faces. So, we actually had to take a break to put ice on our swollen faces,” the seasoned K-drama star was quoted as saying.
“The Glory” will be airing in two parts. The first part will debut on Netflix this Friday (30th December). Watch the trailer here:
