The family-loving and renowned brand – Mydin supermarket – is blowing up on Twitter. Apparently, what seemed like a joke-tweet which surfaced from their side has unintentionally hurt a celebrity’s feelings. Without any direct call-outs, the tweet is a simple, witty play on the rapper’s name (Cap + Rice).
Four hours after the tweet was posted, Caprice screenshot the tweet and threatened to take legal action. Evidently, this isn’t the first time this public figure has been in this kind of spotlight.
The Mydin joke-tweet was of three photos – tea, cap and rice. Saying that they initially wanted to buy just tea, they ended up buying ‘cap’ and ‘rice’ instead. Following the tweet, they added that they realised they didn’t need the cap or rice so Mydin will be offering twenty-four hour refund for their customers.
The tweet blew up and caught the attention of Caprice. Several hours later, to everyone’s surprise, the celeb posted on his Instagram Stories, demanding an apology video from Mydin. In addition to that, the influencer had also given Mydin 24 hours to do so or he would sue a whopping RM30 Million.
The post was denied comments, so we weren’t able to see netizens’ reactions. Besides the post on Instagram, the influencer also posted several story explaining his actions. Stating that he is upset that a well-beloved brand was mocking him, he felt many netizens would understand his situation.
But from Mydin’s post on Twitter, netizens seemed outraged at the influencer’s response. Many of them stand behind Mydin saying that the influencer’s response was overly exaggerated. They also believe that if a court case does ensue, Mydin would come out winning.
Update (21st October):
A day after the Caprice called out the matter to public, director of Mydin Mohamed Holdings – Ameer Ali Mydin, finally responds; “If Caprice wants to sue, bring it on.” He also added; “We (Mydin) never even mentioned the name Caprice nor tagged him, why is he taking it to heart?”
“Siapa makan cili, dia yang rasa pedas.
“Kalau betul Caprice nak saman, hantar surat saman kepada pihak kami, biar peguam saya nanti akan semakkan,” katanya lanjut.

At the time of writing, Caprice nor Mydin has yet to update the public of what is to follow. Will they actually go through with this lawsuit, or will it just dissolve into a quiet resolution?
