Sometimes, the truth isn’t enough when you’re dealing with rumours. After all, simply saying you didn’t do it, isn’t going to help your case against others. However, Chinese actor-singer Zhou Jia (周杰) seems to have created his own way of dealing with plausible rumours.
The former “My Fair Princess (還珠格格)” actor retired from acting to invest in agriculture. He recently returned to the entertainment scene. Unfortunately, his return was greeted with slander by a netizen. In an effort to dispel the rumours, Zhou Jia came up with a rather unconventional response.
Recently, a netizen accused the 51-year-old actor of some rather spicy things. The netizen claimed to be an ex-girlfriend. She said Zhou Jia broke up with her because she refused to take birth control pills. Apparently, he had given her an ultimatum about the issue and her choice led to them breaking up. “After abandoning me, you turned around and found another woman,” she allegedly said. “You take your relationships so seriously, so dirty.”
On top of that, the netizen claimed that Zhou Jia needed young women, preferably in their twenties, to be with him. She also alleged that the actor had taken a mortgage and was having financial problems. As proof, she released his private photos and their chat history. Her announcement caught netizens’ attention and discussions about it broke out.
In the midst of everything, Zhou Jia decided to respond. He left a message on his Weibo on 11th December, stating: “My friend said that as long as I admit I am gay then I can prove my innocence. Well, I actually am (gay).” Netizens were quick to comment on the matter. Some were sceptical, of course. “Wild guess; no one wants to get (together) with you,” one said. “I’m gay, of course someone wants to,” Zhou Jia smartly replied. Another netizen stated, “You (as a) gay look a bit steely and straight.” The actor fired back with: “Annoying, annoying, annoying. It’s so obvious, can’t you tell?”
He had several supporters. However, the majority, aside from the sceptics, weren’t happy with his response. Many felt he should not have responded at all. Others felt it was a joke gone bad. Some just found it confusing! Still, the actor wasn’t one to sit idly by. He addressed the new issue on 12th December with the same aplomb he’d been showing.
Zhou Jia listed out the accusations that had been thrown at him, such as being a bad person, being impotent and having French kissed someone. He also added the names he had been called, such as “animal”, “dog shit” and “scumbag”. The actor stated he admitted to everything they had accused him of. “May I ask what else (do) you want?” he said sarcastically. A netizen left a comment on this post saying, “You really have thick skin.” Needless to say, the actor had apparently reached the end of his rope by then, given his succinct, “F**k you.”
We’re not exactly sure if Zhou Jia managed to resolve his issue, but that was certainly one way to come out of the closet! If anything, the actor did, at least, manage to redirect people’s attention.
Both posts have already been taken down, but it’s doubtful it will be erased from people’s minds. Well, only the future knows what’s in store for the now openly gay actor.
