Genting Malaysia Bhd is expected to cut up to 3000 jobs this month. The Edge reported that layoffs have already started taking place.
The company had over 20,000 employees back in 2019, but had to implement temporary salary cuts, especially to those in higher ranks. The group had hoped to avoid job losses but clearly the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a huge toll on them.
Although operation for Resorts World Genting is still suspended, 2 out of 4 hotels in Malaysia will be resuming business tomorrow (Thursday, 18th June). They are Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi.
Meanwhile, Resorts World Genting and Resorts World Awana will remain close until further notice. Having said that, people have been flocking to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets for the current mega sale on all things fashion.
Update:
Resorts World Genting will reopen this Friday (19th June) at 10am. However, entries into SkyCasino at SkyAvenue and Genting Club at Genting Grand Hotel will only be reserved for Genting Rewards members for the time being.
Public entry into the casino will resume in the near future.
