Yesterday evening (Monday, 13th April), AirAsia Group Bhd issued a warning against an online scam being linked to the company’s founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.
The airline mentioned that a fictitious “Tony Fernandes Foundation” is not connected to AirAsia or Fernandes himself in any way. The Facebook scam apparently offered opportunities “to assist in projects in exchange for membership of the fictitious foundation”.
The official statement reads:
“AirAsia wishes to confirm that it has not established any other foundation other than its official AirAsia Foundation. The mentioned Tony Fernandes Foundation is in no way linked to AirAsia or its Group CEO Tony Fernandes. Any message purporting to be from Tony Fernandes or Mark Kelvin or sent in relation to a Tony Fernandes Foundation is fraudulent.
Members of the public are advised to be cautious and always refer to AirAsia’s official social media channels for the latest company news in respect of such matters. AirAsia will never request your personal data or details without specific and lawful measures in place.”
“AirAsia will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or groups who purport to use the AirAsia brand or fraudulently or commit identity theft.
Members of the public are advised that AirAsia shall not be held liable for any claims arising from schemes in which it and any of its authorised officers/employees have no involvement.”
SCAM ALERT!!! If you receive a message or see a post on Tony Fernandes Foundation on Facebook or other platforms, please be warned that it’s a scam. #AirAsia does not have any foundation other than the AirAsia Foundation (@AirAsiaGood). For more info:https://t.co/fnW8nXxdXo
