This is the news fans have been waiting for: director M. Night Shyamalan has confirmed that the sequel to his films “Split” and “Unbreakable”, titled “Glass”, will conclude the movie trilogy.
“I said ‘Can we make a sequel that they don’t realise is a sequel? Can we make an origin story without telling them it’s an origin story until the last moment of the movie? So it plays as a thriller and becomes an origin story?’” the filmmaker previously told io9. “So that was the idea from go.”
The end of “Split” saw the return of Bruce Willis as David Dunn – the man who cannot break. He was eating in a diner where there was a news report on the TV about James McAvoy’s character Kevin Wendell Crumb, who the media has termed “The Horde”.
When the lady beside him says that The Horde reminds her of a former criminal, David Dunn suggests that perhaps she’s referring to Mr. Glass a.k.a. Elijah Price (played by Samuel L. Jackson in “Unbreakable”).
“It’s taken 17 years but I can finally answer the #1 question I get, ‘Are you making a f**king sequel to ‘Unbreakable’ or what?’ My new film is the sequel to ‘Unbreakable’ AND ‘Split’. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this 3rd film.”
the filmmaker tweeted.
In addition to the confirmation of the cast and released date, Universal has also unveiled the first synopsis.
“M. Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals – 2000’s ‘Unbreakable’ and last year’s ‘Split’ – in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller: ‘Glass’. From ‘Unbreakable’, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from ‘Split’ are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.
“Following the conclusion of ‘Split’, ‘Glass’ finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.”
Writer Cooper Hood speculates that in his pursued of Kevin Wendell Crumb, David Dunn will likely seek out Casey Cooke since she was able to escape him.
“Glass” is slated for released on 18th January 2019.
