Dubbed as the “best iPhone Apple has ever made”, the iPhone 7 was first revealed at the tech giant’s keynote event 2 months ago and to be honest, after months of anticipation, it was well worth the wait.
Aside from iPhone’s usual colourways (Rose Gold, Gold, Silver), the iPhone 7 also boasts 2 new black finishes: Black (matte) and Jet Black (high-gloss). The iPhone 7 may look like its predecessor, but the new smartphone features a new Retina HD display; is 25% brighter; and has a wider colour gamut. Beyond all the new features like the Lightning port, sensor-driven home button, and bigger storage, the possibilities are endless for the iPhone 7.
Here are 7 things (we think) you should do if you are an iPhone 7 owner:
Take your iPhone 7 into the showers

With an IP67 certification, the iPhone 7 is the first water-and-dust resistant iPhone. Yes, you’ve read that right. iPhone 7 users can text in the rain; take underwater selfies in the swimming pool; and even answer a call in the showers! Brb, gonna make a Spotify playlist for bath time.
Hold dance parties, anywhere!
“But what about the speakers?” you ask? Fret not, because with the addition of the stereo speakers on the iPhone 7, all you need is some really good upbeat dance tracks for a great party. The smartphone’s new pair of sound systems offers up to 2 times louder than the iPhone 6s and it also features an increased dynamic range of sound, giving users a one-of-a-kind audio experience. So put your dancing shoes on!
Make a short or start vlogging (video blogging)
Its new camera is probably the best selling point of the new smartphone as it has a 12MP camera with optical image stabilisation (for both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus) and it is said to be 60% faster and 30% more efficient that its forerunner. It also has a wide colour capture for more vibrant and detailed photos, making it the ideal camera for travel. Also, with the A10 Fusion chip that boasts a super high performance processor, users can smoothly edit videos without any lag or stutter. Did we mention that you can opt to shoot your video in 4K resolution? Film/vlog away 🙂
Relive your MSN Messenger days with expressive messaging
If you loved using MSN Messenger’s cheeky, large animated emoticons in the past, then you would most likely enjoy iOS 10’s newest iMessage feature on the iPhone 7 – expressive messaging. Though the choices are limited, the update allows users to send messages (in any language) with one of its built-in full-screen animations such as “Happy Birthday” (balloons), “Congratulations” (confetti), and “Happy New Year” (fireworks). Other animations (non full-screen) also include a broken heart, a fireball, and a kiss.
#OOTN it like a pro & up your Instagram game
Some of us, we care a great deal about our Instagram feeds. So much so that we make absolutely no room for bad pictures (read: out of focus or grainy). Well, with the iPhone 7, there’s no need for extra lighting because this baby takes night OOTDs aka #OOTN like a pro. Be it at the club or at a dimly-lit street, it has a stunning low-light performance as its 6 element lens boasts a larger f/1.8 maximum aperture, letting in 50% more light than the iPhone 6s. The smartphone’s QuadLED TrueTone flash is also 50% brighter and the front camera has been upgraded to 7MP. Talk about taking your Instagram game to the next level.
Play Pokemon GO all day err day
Yes, we know, Pokemon GO is a battery-drainer. But thanks to the new A10 Fusion chip, the iPhone 7 is said to have the “longest battery life ever in an iPhone” and it can last up to 2 hours more than the iPhone 6s. Moreover, your favourite pocket monster couldn’t look any better because Apple claims that the iPhone 7’s upgraded LED display is the “best colour management in the smartphone industry”, offering cinema-standard colours and better colour saturation. So, arguably the best smartphone to play Pokemon GO with?
Sleep healthy, wake up healthy
iPhone 7 users should definitely try out Bedtime, another interesting iOS 10 feature. Instead of setting an alarm, Bedtime allows you to configure the number of hours you sleep, along with an alert to tell you that it’s time to rest at the end of the day. It also tracks your sleep through Apple Health. To use, open the “Clock” app and select “Bedtime” mode at the bottom of the display, then choose the amount of sleep you’d like to get and which days you’d need an alarm. You can also change the alarm sound in “Options”.
BONUS:
“Fake” DSLR details via iPhone 7 Plus’ dual camera
Okay, this feature is only exclusive to iPhone 7 Plus owners. But it’s so neat! The new “Portrait Mode” offers a depth effect that uses both of the iPhone 7 Plus’ cameras (a 12MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera) to mimic the bokeh (out-of-focus effect) seen on portraits taken with DSLRs or other high-end cameras. It even guides the user with instructions like “move closer”. Let’s be honest here, Apple deserves 2 thumbs up for this one ? ?
The only thing is, “Where can I get my hands on an iPhone 7 without breaking the bank?”
