Look out, Singapore! Sanrio’s popular lazy-but-also-somewhat-depressed egg aka Gudetama is a-comin’ your way.
Gudetama was first introduced by Sanrio (home to Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars, Keroppi, Bad Badtz-Maru, Kuromi, etc.) in 2013 following a contest to introduce new characters based on Japanese food. The character is the yolk of an egg, often depicted reclining on his egg white or as an ingredient in a Japanese dish. He’s basically an egg lacking in “spunk”.

The “lazy egg” became an instant hit in Japan, leading to Gudetama merchandise being sold at a number of dedicated pop-up stores across Japan. His fame also resulted in the opening of a number of themed pop-up cafes serving egg-related dishes.
Well, some good news for Gudetama fans in Singapore because a theme cafe is set to open its doors in November 2016. Located at Suntec City Mall, the Gudetama cafe is set to feature wide variety of Gudetama-themed dishes including breakfast in a pan, waffle with soft serve ice cream, pizza, and coffee. The surprise announcement was made via the Gudetama Cafe Singapore Instagram account, which appeared out of nowhere yesterday (Sunday, 16th October 2016) evening.
Little else is known about the outlet but according to CNA, Gudetama Cafe Singapore will be located on the ground floor of the mall, replacing The House of Robert Timms.
Meanwhile, popular food stylist Little Miss Bento has announced that she will be working on the food styling and co-creating the menu with the Gudetama Cafe Singapore team. She also mentioned that she will be sharing more updates from behind the scenes, including sneak peeks and menu highlights, in time to come.
Egg-citin’ times ahead 😉
