Ever since pop legend Britney Spears hinted that she was working on a secret project with American film producer Marc Platt, who has worked on “Legally Blonde”, “La La Land” and most recently “Wicked”, fans have theorised that the project could be a documentary or a biopic. It has now been confirmed that it is indeed a biopic, authorised by the singer herself.
Universal Studios secured the rights to her memoir “The Woman In Me”, which the movie will be based on. The upcoming project will be directed by Jon M. Chu and fans have been posting their suggestions on who they think is best to play the “Circus” singer. We also chimed in with our personal suggestions as well so here are 8 actresses who could play Britney Spears in her upcoming biopic:
1. Tate McRae

Twitter has been blowing up with fans wanting singer Tate McRae to play Britney in the biopic. This is probably because the singer has personal connections with the pop icon, having been interviewed by her earlier this year. Not only that, but the 21-year-old is also known for her electric performances and incredible choreography so she definitely got the moves to recreate some of the legend’s most iconic music videos and stage moments.
2. Sabrina Carpenter

Both Sabrina and Britney have a background in Disney so that’s already one thing the “Espresso” singer can relate to the icon. Apart from singing, Sabrina is still a full-time actress, having been in multiple projects such as “Tall Girl”, “Emergency” and “Work It” so she’ll have no problems going through auditions to at least be short-listed to play one of the best entertainers of all time.
3. Sydney Sweeney

Unlike the other celebs mentioned on this list, Sydney is one of the few who doesn’t have a background in singing or dancing so it’s hard to imagine her busting some of Britney’s iconic dance moves in the biopic but she does indeed have the acting chops to pull the character off, especially for the story’s more dramatic scenes. Will she consider auditioning?
4. Olivia Holt

Another Disney alumnus, this is more of our personal suggestion than fans’. While we’re not too sure about her dancing, Olivia Holt certainly can sing and is known for her many dance tracks. Her role in the 2021 series “Cruel Summer” proves that she definitely has what it takes to play not only the Southern star on her joyful days but on her more challenging days as well.
5. Florence Pugh

The UK actress has done comedy, horror, superhero and drama but one thing she hasn’t done is playing a real-life person in a biopic, which makes her one of the most perfect candidates to take on the challenge to play Britney Spears. If you’re wondering about her vocals, Florence Pugh actually proved to everyone she has the singing abilities from the 2023 movie “Good Person”.
6. Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby once expressed her interest in playing Britney Spears in a biopic. In an interview on the “Drew Barrymore Show” in 2022, the actress said, “I want to play a real person and I think for me, Britney. I think her story, first of all, resonates with me. I see the scramble for words [in her interviews] and I don’t know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only.”
Now that the biopic is confirmed, this is her chance to prove that she can portray the singer and do her story justice. What do you think?
7. Elle Fanning

Elle really said “Hear me out” when she posted her Halloween costume dressing up as Britney Spears. She donned a similar outfit to the star’s iconic MTV VMA performance of “I’m A Slave 4 U” and even had a stuffed snake to complete the look. Not only can the “Maleficent” star act but she can also sing as she showed off her vocals in the 2010 movie “The Runaways”
8. Emily Kelavos

Another one of our suggestions and one of the lesser-known celebs on this list but it could actually work. Perhaps what the Britney Spears biopic needs is an up-and-coming star to play her which could also simultaneously kickstart their career for the rest of their lives. Emily Kelavos grew up as a competitive dancer and is a Southern girl herself like the icon as she was born and raised in Texas.
Not only that, but the singer was also part of HYBE’s “Dream Academy” and almost debuted in KATSEYE (캣츠아이). She was unfortunately eliminated in the final selection, but maybe auditioning to play Britney could put her on the world stage that she dreamed of.
In the end, since Britney herself is involved with the project, she’ll have the final say on who gets to play her in the biopic. Which one of these actresses do you think can play Britney Spears should they choose to audition?
