When it comes to horror and thriller movies, there are a lot of subcategories out there. Some subgenres are universes unto themselves: for instance, you have your classic supernatural poltergeist film, and psychotic killer-going-on-a-rampage movie. But in our humble opinion, the best horror subcategory out there is zombie!

They’re manic, unpredictable, mindless, cold-blooded monsters… who were once us – the perfect concoction for the best horror film monster. Plus, most zombie movies are all about survival, so you get to see how the few remaining humans navigate in an apocalyptic setting, while while avoiding being eaten by zombies. So, if you’re planning on bingeing on some good zombie films, we gotchu. Here are six zombie films that will have you too scared to even turn off your lights!

World War Z

Paramount Pictures

Imagine that you’re driving your family in a car and the next thing you know, the city that you once knew is being raided by flesh-eating zombies. Starring Brad Pitt, World War Z follows Gerry, a former United Nations employee, as he is recruited to investigate a threatening virus that turns humans into zombies. With survival and his family on the line, will he able to find the cure to stop the chaotic rampage that has swept the entire globe?

#Alive

Lotte Entertainment

It’s one thing to play a survival video game, but it’s a whole other thing to live in it. Oh Joon-woo is home alone when his entire apartment is surrounded by zombies. After witnessing, through his balcony, people getting attacked left and right, he understands that he is trapped in his own home. However, with no food and communication devices to call for help or his family, Oh Joon-woo is left to fend for himself in order to stay #alive.

Train To Busan

Next Entertainment World

You’d have to be living under a rock if you haven’t watched Train to Busan. But in case you actually do, the pioneering movie follows Seok-woo, played by Gong Yoo, and his daughter as they travel by train to visit his wife to celebrate her birthday. However, the journey soon turns into a nightmare as the train is then overrun by zombies. Watch how the passengers, including Seok-woo and his daughter, fight for survival in order to reach Busan.

Zombieland

Columbia Pictures

Looking for a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek take on the zombie genre? Then look no further than Zombieland. It’s not easy to stay alive in a world where you could possibly be eaten by a nasty-looking zombie. Which is why protagonist Columbus creates a helpful guide throughout his zombie-filled journey on how stay alive. Watch how Columbus forges friendships with three survivors – and their hilarious adventure through Zombieland.

Army Of The Dead

Netflix

What if you and your gang were recruited to carry off an impossible heist: steal US$200 million from a place swarming with intelligent zombies? We’re sure you would pass up the chance, but these mercenaries don’t. An army filled with highly-skilled zombie killers takes the gamble to venture off into Las Vegas’ most dangerous quarantine zone in order to complete their mission. Will they make it?
