The ultimate “Avengers” movie is set to bring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (together with the Guardians of the Galaxy) in an epic showdown against Thanos in next year’s “Avengers: Infinity War”.

Although the highly-anticipated film is titled “Infinity War”, fans are super stoked that it will draw inspiration from the classic “Infinity Gauntlet” miniseries comics. Now that most of us have seen the first record-breaking trailer, here’s a rundown of the main comic book stories that influences “Avengers: Infinity War”.

1. The “Infinity Gauntlet” miniseries

Although “Infinity War” is the title of the 3rd instalment from “Avengers”, the story arc will lean more towards “Infinity Gauntlet”. The 1991 issue sees the Mad Titan using his unrivalled powers to impress Mistress Death. Things become catastrophic when Thanos decides to obliterate half of the life in the universe with a simple snap of his fingers.

2. Jonathan Hickman’s “Infinity”

The vital element from “Infinity” is the introduction of the Black Order and the Outriders. As aforementioned, 4 out of 5 members from the Black Order will be remade as the adopted children of Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War”. The trailer has already shown the alien Outriders and Black Dwarf’s invasion in Wakanda. Thanos’ army can be seen taking on Captain America and Black Panther in the clip.

3. “Secret Avengers”

When Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier took over as Captain America in the comics, Steve Rogers recruited Black Widow, Moon Knight, Valkyrie, and War Machine to take part in undercover missions that the more visible Avengers couldn’t be associated with. As noted by Screen Rant, many of the superheroes led by Cap in “Avengers: Infinity War” during the Wakanda battle have served time as Secret Avengers.

4. “House of M: The Vision and Scarlet Witch”

The love interest of Vision and Wanda was previously teased in “Captain America: Civil War“. Fortunately, audiences will get to see the couple’s romance blossom in “Infinity War”. After years of complex comic story-lines, Vision and Scarlet Witch eventually had 2 children. It can be expected that elements of “House of M” will factor into next year’s 3rd instalment.

5. “Amazing Spider-Man: Worldwide”

The new Spider-Man costume was first teased in the closing moments of “Spider-Man: Homecoming“. Although Peter Parker initially turned it down, it’s a given that we’ll see the web-slinger don the upgraded armour designed by Tony Stark in “Avengers: Infinity War”. Instead of light fabric, Spider-Man in the recent comic books now has an extra layer of protection.

“Avengers: Infinity War” will debut in cinemas on 4th May 2018.
