The Miss Hong Kong 2023 pageant (香港小姐競選) has been in full swing lately, and it has been keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. Who will be bringing home the title ‘Miss Hong Kong’ this year?
Two days ago, the top 17 finalists were announced after a series of auditions and interviews. In fact, the crowd has already picked out some of their hot favourites from the 17 finalists. To name a few, ‘Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) lookalike’ Lovelle Wang (王敏慈), blonde goddess Juliana Kwok (郭珮文) and ‘IU lookalike’ Hilary Chong (庄子璇) are three contestants deemed by netizens to be the likeliest to come out on top.
This year, netizens have collectively agreed that Lovelle is the most beautiful contestant. However, this does not mean that she will be crowned ‘Miss Hong Kong 2023’. According to the data from the last few years, it is revealed that the most beautiful dubbed by netizens had a lower chance of winning the pageant. Let’s review the most beautiful contestants over the past 5 years:
Miss Hong Kong 2022 – Cecca Xu (許子萱)
Last year, Cecca blew the public away with her elegance and stunning figure. Since the start of the pageant, she had been a big hit among netizens with many expecting her to steal the champion title. Unfortunately, she lost to Denise Lam (林卓錡) and only won first runner-up.
Miss Hong Kong 2021 – Yvette Chan (陳星妤, formerly known as 陳聖瑜)
Yvette originally participated in the beauty pageant as a social media influencer. In a short time span, she was dubbed as the most beautiful for the year’s pageant. However, she was not the winner of Miss Hong Kong 2021 – least of all in the top 3, which surprised many. Today, the star has scored herself an important role in popular HK drama, “Night Beauties (一舞傾城)” and is doing way better than 2021’s champion, Sabrina Mendes (宋宛穎).
Miss Hong Kong 2020 – Rosita Kwok (郭柏妍)
Because of her defining features, Rosita was instantly dubbed as the most beautiful among the other contestants in Miss Hong Kong 2020. Unfortunately, she only won second runner-up, losing to the champion, Lisa-Marie Tse (谢嘉怡). At last year’s TVB Anniversary Awards, Rosita received the award for the female artist who improved the most. Looks like since her debut in TVB, she has been working hard and showing good results.
Miss Hong Kong 2019 – Wong Fei (王菲)
Known for her sweet angelic smile, Wong Fei was favoured by netizens in 2019 after making her first appearance in the pageant. She took home the first runner-up position and the ‘Miss Photogenic’ award that year. After joining TVB, she started out as a guest on a couple of variety shows. Eventually, she received more and more opportunities to appear in dramas and starred in the well-known HK sitcom, “Come Home Love: Lo and Behold” and the drama, “Murder Diary”.
Miss Hong Kong 2018 – Sara Ting (丁子田)
Miss Hong Kong 2018’s second runner-up, Sara, immediately became a hot favourite for her looks after entering the beauty pageant. After joining TVB though, she was not offered many filming opportunities, which led her to not renew her contract with TVB a couple of years later. Leaving the entertainment industry, the beauty now lives in the UK with her boyfriend Paul and is working as a property salesperson.
